Epcot is rolling out 2nd Segway tour

More Disney visitors soon will be scooting around Epcot on Segway transporters in the morning before the park gate opens to the general public.

For a couple of years, Walt Disney World has given Epcot visitors two options to ride Segways -- the two-wheeled, electric scooters that people stand on as they ride.

The big ride is a two-hour spin, including an hour of training indoors and an hourlong guided tour of Epcot's World Showcase. That attraction, which costs $80 a person, proved popular enough that Disney is adding a second tour, starting Friday.

Disney also offers a $45 one-hour version that's all indoors, during midday.

To accommodate the additional Segway traffic, Disney has built a new, larger indoor riding and training area, in the Innoventions West building. It replaces the old Segway station at Club Cool.

"They've been really popular, that's why we're adding to it," spokeswoman Lissette Campos said.

Race & golf

A new diversion aimed at race-car enthusiasts and golf lovers opened in Kissimmee last week, the third attraction in Fun Spot Action Park owner John Arie's collection of tourist attractions.

The new business, called Full Speed Race & Golf, features six simulators that replicate NASCAR race tracks at Daytona Beach, Watkins Glen, N.Y., and other locations. The attraction also contains a blacklight, 18-hole golf course with a racing theme.

"One hole is motocross, one is monster trucks, one is demolition derby, one would be Formula One," Arie said. Full Speed is located on U.S. Highway 192.

Arie also owns Fun Spot Action Park near International Drive in Orlando and the SkyCoaster ride in Kissimmee's Old Town. He is planning to build a second Fun Spot on a site adjacent to the SkyCoaster.

Vino miles

Delta Air Lines SkyMiles members now don't even have to leave the dinner table to accumulate frequent flier miles.

Miles will now be awarded to members who join the Vinesse family of wine clubs including American Cellars Wine Club, Four Seasons Wine Club and the Light and Sweet Club among others, Delta announced last week.

Members will receive 100 miles for each bottle purchased and five miles per dollar spent on Vinesse.com/delta.

Delta, operating in bankruptcy since mid-September, is looking for new ways to appeal to customers and boost its image as an international carrier.

"We look forward to providing SkyMiles members with amazing selections from the best wine regions around the world," said Nick Perdiew, general manager of sales for Vinesse, in a news release.

Miles accumulated through the wine club can be redeemed for Award Travel vacations, upgrades or Crown Room Club memberships.

Giving kids a lift
Mears Transportation Group, known as the big power player with tight reins on business at Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World and area hotels, also gave something back last year.

The company that provides bus, taxi, town car and shuttle services, gave more than $238,000 in free rides to Give Kids the World last year, according to a letter from the charity's Chief Financial Officer Tom Levesque.

The Kissimmee-based charity helps make dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.
