Epcot FastPass - Spaceship Earth Strategy

We currently have a FP for SE during our trip in late April. With the rumors about SE closing for refurb in the near future, is it worth hanging on to in the hopes that it gets changed to a Multiple Experience FP to potentially use on Tier 1 ride? (Totally understand this isn't likely, one can dream though right?) Or am I just wasting a FP and should just look at alternative Tier 2s to book?

We already have a MS FP, and none of the other Tier 2's really require one, so the thought was that we might as well secure one for SE and, if it does go down for refurb, hope we can transition it into a TT or Soarin'.

Would love to get people's thoughts on this!

There aren't many tier 2's at Epcot worth really worrying about so I would just keep SSE. If it is still up and running it's a decent tier 2, if it goes down, then you get the anytime (though it won't likely work on tier 1 rides) and can add a different tier 2.

I would keep it just because that's a great tier 2 to use a FP on. The standby line is no fun, so it's a good one to be able to skip. If it moves to a multiple experience one, then you lost nothing

I did the exact same thing for our early April trip. It's win-win for me. Either we get to ride SE with a FP, or we get an anytime FP, or we get a different Tier2 (which is no big deal at EPCOT anyway, so I'm not disappointed either way).

Glad to hear I'm on the right track of thinking here! Any updates on when the refurb will take place? I'm hoping it will hold off until after our trip (potentially until Ratatouille opens) because SE tier 2 drops off dramatically, but with it being such large overhaul (thought I heard 2 years?!?) I assume they would want to get this rolling sooner rather than later.
