Epcot Countries vs Real Ones

This past spring break I went to mexico and visited like four cities. Everything in Mexico is very cheap, so I was thinking about Epcot and the Mexico Pavillion, most of the things they have are ridicously overpriced. The silver that they sell is way cheaper, and the paper máche/ Day of the dead figurines are not that expensive either. from my experience i won't buy anything from the mexico pavillion knowing i can get the authentic for a cheaper price. Even though i won't buy anything from Epcot-Mexico it's a good representation. Has anyone else been to a different country, especially the ones at epcot and was is your take on them?

well, i don't think that Canada's pavilion really reflects canada. i mean the cast members at the canadian pavillion wear flannel uniforms, i mean theres more to canada than beavers and maple syrup.

Yeah and the England one is totally nothing like England, we barely have cobbles anywhere now! And there's more here than chippies and pubs!

They are... but I doubt those really are their real outfits :rolleyes:

You guys do know that the countries are sponsoring themselves, right? Example: Disney wants a Spain pavillion, but Spain won't pay for it, so there is no Spain pavillion. The architecture is designed by the real country, not by Disney.

As for the cost of different souveniors, those are DISNEY items. Disney= pricey. For instance, this past trip in March I bought a make up bag from France for $12. One of my friends had the same bag they got from Albertson's for about $5. The bag says "Made in China" on it, too.

As for the costumes, they don't wear what people wear around there everyday, just the either Americanized version (what we think of that country when we hear the name) or a 'special' outfit. I mean no one in America wears those 18th century clothes that they wear in the America pavilion, but we used it.

I hope all of that makes sense...

You also have to realize that the pavillions are not supposed to represent modern day countries. They are supposed to be from the past. I mean... We go to Italy all the time because that's where we are from and no where in Italy now (except on our vineyars) are there just big wine barrells in the street or anything... But there used to be. If they made the countries all look modern day then they would all looked the same - paved streets and buildings. As for the prices, you also have to consider the exchange rate... the dollar is worth different amounts in different countries... so things may be cheaper in Mexico, but more expensive somewhere else. And plus... Disney is expensive anyways. Thats just my input.

that's what i thought ::yes::

World Showcase's Canada is quite nice, however as said all Canadians do not wear flannel shirts and hiking boots. The movie needs to be updated and the merchandise at World Showcase's Canada does little for the east coast. For example they have Roots shirts with various Canadian cities on them. The farthest east that they went for those shirts that I saw was Montreal. There are however, four provinces east of Quebec. So I would give Canada a not bad, but needs improvement.
