Hi all, so I was just wondering if any of you can add anything else to my list as what to help entertain them on the journey?!?

What's already on your list?

I brought for the plane and for the restaurants:

Disney sticker/coloring/activity books picked up at the dollar store.
Preschool workbooks, also gotten at the dollar store.
Mini cans of play doh (these will be on clearance at Target after Halloween!)
Soft cover books I got for $.60 at Ocean State Job Lot (Little Einsteins and Mickey books)

Also, for your older kids if you or dh have an Ipod you can load in their favorite CDs/songs and they can listen for a while.

Portable DVD players are good too but only if you have headsets for everyone and it can run on a battery (as opposed to the car's cigarette lighter).

We also take small dolls (like Polly Pockets) or action figures, hand held video games (sound off only), a favorite stuffed animal or doll, a small blanket, Crayola magic color pens/books and lots and lots of snacks. All the books, toys, and games are NEW for the trip and the kids haven't seen them before. We pull out something new as soon as their attention wavers.

Also...for the older kids, we try to do as much homework as possible on the plane on the way down so we don't need to worry about it when we get there.

Have fun planning!

Pipe cleaners
tape, cut out shapes & paper
Sticker books
Preschool workbooks
Coloring books & Crayons
Colorwonder books
Books on CD w/portable CD player
Card games
small dolls (polly pocket type)
Ipod loaded with Disney music

When our DDs were 4 and 1.5, we brought those travel sized magna doodles (or doodle pro, whatever they're called). That worked great! We carried them in the backpack for any waits in lines, etc. Other than that, a baggie with crayons and small notebook. For the plane, now we're onto coloring book, leapster and ipod. And maybe one polly doll.

How about A leapster or a DS? My DD5 loves her leapster and wil play it for literally an hour at a time and I have to stop her.

Crayola Model Magic is the best. I hope they still allow it on planes. It is similar to play dough but is completely clean- no crumbs and you can toss it at the end of the flight. They can make stuff out of it or at least spend their time kneading two colors together to make a new color. That in itself takes some time.

We have some magnetic sets - paper dolls and things that she only gets to play with when we fly. Then her DS, a few toys, new sticker book and snacks that are not loaded up with sugar.

What will your kids sit and do?

The older two should be able to pack their own bags. My DD's 6, and she's responsible for packing a backpack that she will carry, but I have final say on things.

Her bag generally ends up with: craft kit (plain paper, twistables, stickers, colored post-it-notes, scissors, tape), coloring book, books, Dolly (comfort item) and a few outfits, pet shops, nintendoDS (used to be leapster)/headphones. I edit down the number of books and the pet/accessories choices, then add a workbook and/or BrainQuest.

I'll carry a new book, one other toy/craft surprise (for emergencies) and healthy snacks, though part of our ritual is that she does get to pick a bag of candy and a beverage at the airport. Again, mom has veto power over her purchases. I also load music for her onto my ipod.

For your toddler, a few favorite and new board books, crayons/coloring book, comfort item, travel magnadoodle, invisible ink book, favorite small toys. Wikki sticks/pipe cleaners, maybe. Run around the airport before you board, and don't buckle in until you have to.
