What is so special about owning a cat?
I can find several things cats are unable to do that dogs can do, but nothing that cats can do that dogs can't besides jumping onto fences.

So I'd like to know what is so special about cats.
Don't start trashing dogs, but tell me what is so amazingly wonderful about a cat. I'm obviously missing something..

• Cats respect your personal space. They don't jump all over you and leave spit everywhere.

• Cats don't howl at the doorbell and knock things over when someone knocks on the door.

• Cats don't freak out if you leave them alone for a few days.

• Scientists have found that purring helps heal injuries, because purring has the correct frequency to stimulate bone growth.

• They meow quietly instead of barking loudly.

• Cats can exercise themselves. You don't have to take them out for walks - and PICK UP THEIR POO... :crazy2:

There are MANY more reasons, but I doubt you would want to be bored with facts that make them great pets.

Cats also sit on your lap when you least want them to, demand pets from you at cost of life and limb, and find ways to get you to do what they want. Constantly.

Cats have nine lives LOL!! Ok well cats do not slobber all over you. :)

I'm right in the middle of "cat person" and "dog person." There's just something about cats... they just seem so smart. I went to a cat show earlier today, actually. "Dog people" can get the wrong first impression of some cats because they seem aloof, but once you get to know them, they're as sweet as dogs. I love dogs, too! Don't get me wrong.

My experience with cats is that they could run a potential World-Overthrowing Dictatorship.

Despite my vmk nickname, I am actually very much a dog person. The only thing I've ever found cats to be able to do that dogs can't is to cause me to produce up to 100 times the recommended daily allowance of fluid from my nose and eyes. :crazy2:

Cats are smarter! (They actually are. Their brains are very similar to human brains while dog brains are completely different)

Cats see 6 times better than a human at night!

If you stoke a cat it lowers your blood pressure.

Cats like women better! (i just think thats a cool fact lol)

Cats have feelings and emotions. If they push their face against your head it is a sign of affection and aceptance.

I have to disagree with the two bolded ones. If you stroke a cat and it gives you this look of "this is inadequate" followed by the claws, chances are your blood pressure will rise... significantly.

And dogs have emotions. Despite what some think, dogs are NOT robots. There's an important difference, and it should be known by all.

What about a litterbox, don't you have to empty those? I'd rather just let a dog outside than having a nasty litterbox in my house. As you can tell i'm a dog person.

Yes I did not mean that dogs did not have feelings. I was just listing a fact.

And actually its a proven fact that it lowers your blood pressure.

But at the same time it can not be proven. Different people relive themselves of stress in different ways. High Blood Pressure is a symptom of stress. Therefor, what works for some people may not work for others. Perhaps a good CHUNK of people get lowered stress when petting a cat, but that does not mean ALL people get lower blood pressure when petting a cat.

If the people who "proved" this where scientists, they should quit their jobs and find employment in a carer that involves less logic.

Heres Some Good Factas :D :

  • It has been scientifically proven that stroking a cat can lower one's blood pressure.
  • In 1987, cats overtook dogs as the number one pet in America (about 50 million cats resided in 24 million homes in 1986). About 37% of American homes today have at least one cat.
  • If your cat snores or rolls over on his back to expose his belly, it means he trusts you.
  • Cats respond better to women than to men, probably due to the fact that women's voices have a higher pitch.
  • In an average year, cat owners in the United States spend over $2 billion on cat food.
  • According to a Gallup poll, most American pet owners obtain their cats by adopting strays.
  • When your cats rubs up against you, she is actually marking you as "hers" with her scent. If your cat pushes his face against your head, it is a sign of acceptance and affection.
  • Contrary to popular belief, people are not allergic to cat fur, dander, saliva, or urine - they are allergic to "sebum," a fatty substance secreted by the cat's sebaceous glands. More interesting, someone who is allergic to one cat may not be allergic to another cat. Though there isn't (yet) a way of predicting which cat is more likely to cause allergic reactions, it has been proven that male cats shed much greater amounts of allergen than females. A neutered male, however, sheds much less than a non-neutered male.
  • Cat bites are more likely to become infected than dog bites.

• Cats respect your personal space.

Good one shadow....No! My cat does not respect my personal space

I love my cats, but my one cat; Newman
He stretches (looks like he is standing up) but he doesn't stretch on the wall or anything it's your leg, then he scratches your leg aka your butt, and it's really annoying
We also have this indent on the back of our couch where the cats sit, so when you sit on the couch, he tends to want to get on your neck or back

Anyways..ya no slobbering..gross
Catbox..nasty
But dogs are more fun to play with

:confused3
I've always liked dogs more than cats. :thumbsup2

Cat bites are more likely to become infected than dog bites.

Now see, I would think this would be a step backwards in the cat campaign.

I will say that in regards to puppies and kittens, I'm indifferent because they're both equally cute and adorable!!!

All cats are different.

All dogs are different.

Some are mean, others nice.

Some do things more than others.

Exactly. Cats aren't outside barking loudly at everything and everyone that they see. Dogs generally do. Even at night when you're trying to sleep.

When and if a cat attacks someone, they usually don't come from moe than a few feet away. Dogs will run and chase after a person they see from two houses down.

When a cat attacks, they can scratch up the skin pretty badly, but they're generally not going to go for the throat and actually try to kill you.

I've never had to protect myself or someone else (besides a baby) from a cat.
I have had to protect myself, my dad, my niece and countless others from dogs attacking.

While cats may scratch someone when they try to pet them, dogs also don't just let anyone pet them. I've known many dogs that try to bite a person when they try to pet them.

Now. I do love some dogs. Just not all. Same goes with cats. :)

Yay! Facts that help both sides. I'm mainly a dog person, but something about cats makes me want to go over and pet them too.

"When your cats rubs up against you, she is actually marking you as "hers" with her scent."
Proof that cats own people! :P

"If your cat snores or rolls over on his back to expose his belly, it means he trusts you."
I wonder if that applies to dogs too? My dog does it constantly... :p
