Enjoying New York City at the Manhattan Club booked via DVC

fantastic TR :thumbsup2

did you get to eat at carmine's? (yum!)
how was newsies?

btw, not all street vendors are the same - some have great pretzels, dogs, & knishes, some don't ;)

i really enjoyed your fresh view of the city, & all the fantastic details - sometimes, we forget how fortunate we are to have so much, so close.....(but then again, so do you - love San Diego!)

I was thinking the exact same thing as I went through this thread! Born and raised in Manhattan/Bronx, I also forget to look at NYC through the eyes of someone who has never been there. I just saw Newsies!! Fabulous! Have tickets for Aladdin and can't wait. And Carmines? To die for...love it.

Congrats on a great trip to NYC. We also own at Manhattan Club - and just stayed there this past thursday evening. Many of OP's comments are spot on. But, for those that consider buying at Manhattan Club, I would mention that our experience with actually getting reservations as a Manhattan Club owner has been very difficult the last few years and required much more planning with less flexibility than we have had with our DVC membership. This has been especially true if trying to book individual dates - which with our membership type we are theoretically able to do.

Our use year runs aug-July, and for our current year we have used 1 day, have 2 more booked, and are wait listed for another 2. No idea how we will use up remaining 2 ...

Our prior 2 years were both depositted into RCI as were we not organized far enough out - 9 months was too late :confused3. (although i did trade one of those weeks in for my brother who just completed a stay at Sheraton Vistana over thanksgiving for an off-site Disney trip :).

For next use year I was successful this past week in booking at exactly 12 months out the week we would like next December - so am very much looking forward to that.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. We live in Maryland and love trips to NYC. We might have to try the Manhattan Club!

Thanks for that excellent and timely reminder. So sorry to hear of your frustrations regarding your TMC ownership. From what I've read on other forums and in various web reports, yours is not a unique experience. There seems to be a growing and valid 'unrest' among the community. :(

I'm hoping things get better there for all involved!

Loved your report! If we were still living in New York State, I *might* have been tempted down to the city after reading it, but for right now? 200 points will buy me a lot of warm Florida nights !

I loved reading this trip report. It made me think of all the great trips to NYC I've had over the years. I may steal this trip idea in a few years! :)

Hi! Thank you for posting this wonderful report! i am so happy to hear you had such a great time! We have 28 points we have to use this year, and I'm considering taking my family to NYC to stay at the Manhattan club, maybe next December (25 points).

Can you tell me, is the area of Central Park that's nearby a safe place to walk with kids? Our kids are 6 and 8.

I'm thinking of going to the Museum of Natural History, Disney Store, maybe the Lion king. All look to be within 5 minute cab rides of the club.

Thank you so much! I hope you're having a great day!

The southern half of Central Park, which is the end closest to TMC, all appeared 'family friendly' to me. Two links that might help?

Don't forget FAO Schwarz?

Patsy's is a great place. Wonderful food and a great atmosphere. if you have chance try Carmine's at 200 W 44th street. We LOVE that place.

Thank you so much for this post. I used it as a guide for our week long vacation which just ended and you were spot on. Loved the location. We walked to a lot of places, and it was nice to have a subway stop close by. I traveled with my three kids as my husband could not get time off work. I only got one phone call from the hotel about the time share presentation a week prior to our trip and when I told them I was not travelling with my husband, they never bothered me again. The only disappointment was attempting to go to Patsy's at 8pm and being turned down because they were fully booked on a Wednesday night, otherwise, the whole trip was a huge success and we will definitely come back.
