Hey folks!

Hoping some of you fantastic DIS folks can help me out! My GF and I are planning another trip to Disney for the summer/fall of 2015 and I am planning on proposing!!

I'm hoping for suggestions on where to do it at Disney World. I saw the Disneyblog post about the the top 10 proposal ideas but I'm wondering if any of you have experience any of them. They also mention the disney website disneyengagements.com but there seems to be very little information the site!

Ideally I would be looking for something that is fairly private (ie. not in front of the castle during wishes etc...) and something where it would be possible to have a photographer. I'm not really sure where to begin to be honest.

Any thoughts?

I can't believe no one's replied to this yet :)

Congrats on your upcoming proposal. That's exciting. :lovestruc

There are SO many places, but how familiar are you with WDW? Some of these might seem obscure and unfamiliar if you haven't really explored WDW in depth.

At Magic Kingdom: Main Street train station balcony can be somewhat private depending on the time of day, and you still get a view of the castle. You can take a ride on the Liberty Square Riverboat. You can do it on a ride that only seats 2 like Haunted Mansion or Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. There is a pathway off to the side of Cinderella's Castle connecting New Fantasyland to Liberty Square (to Sleepy Hollow) that is usually pretty quiet. The little boardwalk connecting Liberty Square to Frontierland can be quiet depending on the time of day. There is a pathway that connects Tomorrowland kind of behind Space Mountain to New Fantasyland (where Toontown used to be - it runs between the train tracks and Tomorrowland Speedway) that's usually really quiet. In between Uptown Jewelers and Crystal Arts on Main Street there is a little area that goes off to the side that stays pretty quiet. There's also a pathway past the boat docks to the left of the monorail in the front of the entrance area that leads out around the Seven Seas Lagoon a bit that hardly anyone goes. Or take a ride on one of the water taxis TO a resort from MK during early visiting hours when there won't be anyone on the boat (everyone will be going to the park not from it to the resorts).

At EPCOT: The pathway from Test Track to the Odyssey (it can be very beautiful with flowers and over the water and the monorail passing by). Before World Showcase opens when everyone is going in that direction, go to the World Showcase Plaza at the front all the way to the water. When World Showcase first opens, go straight over to the United Kingdom to the garden in the back or to the garden pathway in Canada (it's very pretty). You can even go farther into Canada to the little waterfall by Le Cellier and O Canada. There is a terrace between the pathway connecting the United Kingdom to France that's usually really quiet. You can walk down to the lower level by the water. There is a gallery of Arts and History in Morocco that has a beautiful tiled atrium that can be fairly quiet depending on the time of day. The terrace in front of Italy on the water can be quiet and has an excellent view of Spaceship Earth across the water.

At Hollywood Studios: There aren't too many romantic private places here unless you go straight to the back at park opening to the Streets of America. You could go straight to the exit area of Tower of Terror at park opening (since everyone will be going to the entrance). It's a nice secluded area. If it's open, go up the pathway to Fantasmic! during the day when no one would go that way.

At Animal Kingdom: The Discovery Island trails around the Tree of Life. The Pangani Forest Exploration Trail or the Marharajah Jungle Trek trail. There's a pathway that connects just past the main bridge from the Oasis to the bridge by DinoLand USA.

At the Resorts: Grand Floridian - over by the Wedding Pavilion of course. Polynesian - the beach. Contemporary - I heard the California Grill Lounge has a great view of MK and the fireworks. You can even walk along the piers in the back on the water. Boardwalk - go in the early afternoon when everyone else will be at the parks. Find a nice spot. You might be able to go on the little balcony area of the Atlantic Dance Hall right on the water. Yacht/Beach Clubs - on the beach maybe on one of the cute wooden swings.

Downtown Disney: Go in the morning when not many people will be there. Any little spot by the water. The bridge crossing to Fulton's Crab House or the area in front of that sometimes has nice flowers. The boardwalk/pier winding behind Paradise 37 by the boat dock and the path that follows along the edge of the lagoon. There's a path that goes from the back of Cirque du Soleil out to the far parking lot that has a nice view of the lagoon (although with the parking garage construction I don't know if that's still there).

That's all I got :earboy2: Good luck! I'd love to know where you chose.

My only suggestion is making sure you are near a Disney Photographer!!

I was recently engaged, May 4th! And my DF made sure that we had the memory maker included in our package and throughout the weekend he had us take pictures at every spot to make it more natural when we went to "the spot!"

It was so amazing to have the entire thing photographed for us!

He proposed at the rose garden in MK, there is always a photographer there and there wasn't much of a line either.

Best wishes, and good luck with all your planning! :)

Thanks for the replies!!

I've done a bit of digging around and apparently her dream proposal involves fireworks (kinda figured that would be the case).

So i've read about the obvious firework proposals in front of the castle etc.. but does Disney do any kind of packages for proposals?

I've also considered doing a private fireworks cruise but that would likely require me not to have a photographer.

So many questions!?!?

We did a Fireworks cruise before our Disney wedding. You would not have a professional photographer but you would have the boat driver. Perhaps you could talk to him ahead of time and ask him to take some pictures for you.
( I would ask him to take a few of the two of you when you first get on the boat and then throughout the cruise just so your GF doesn't get suspicious when you hand him the camera when the fireworks go off)

Good luck!

There are a lot of spots to make your dreams come true.

POR & POFQ - offer a carriage ride, and you could ask the driver ahead of time when making the arrangements to stop along the way, then he could take the photos.

California Grill, late dinner around the time of the fireworks, also call to make this ADR, request a window seat so you can see the fireworks, from the table or step outside on the overlook to watch the fireworks. Ask the server to do the honors or a hostess might be able to help.

Epcot has many many little off the path places, but not sure about photographer for these, In Canada the pavilion in the back is a nice spot, some friends got engaged back there 15 years ago their still going strong, In France by the fountains. Maybe if you have a late dinner really late around 8:30 to 9:00 you could be in park after closing time, and do it in front of the big fountain, you might find a photographer still around. It so cool to be walking through the park, and hardly anyone around.

Some friends daughter just got engaged, they were at MK seeing the princesses, after the pictures - the groom to be got down one knee proposed, There were lots of pictures, so cute the with the princess in the back ground all teary eyed and then they walked out and the fireworks had just started going off.. Magically...

No matter what you decided she will love it... Do it the 1st day, so you have lots of time to be engaged while there and start talking about your lives together.

Congrats keep us posted..pixiedust:

You can bring a photographer on a fireworks cruise! It's a little bouncy, but we got some great shots. Disney Fine Art Photography has a dessert party photo package that would work, but there are also plenty of Orlando-area wedding photographers who would probably do it for less.

Also, if you're looking at spending that much you might consider just doing a private dessert party in Epcot at UK Pubside, Japan, or one of the other small locations. I have info about planning those here.

The very cheapest option is Italy Overlook, because you can't have food up there, so all you pay for is the venue fee, which is $150. You'd book that through Disney Catered Events too. The story of our party there is at the end of this post.

You could bring a photographer to either of those, or even pay their park admission so they could just show up at the right time.

There was a couple who got engaged at the top of the contemporary at Cali Grill during the fireworks. It's not crowded at ALL up there (especially now that there are two balconies on either side) and the fireworks view is incredible.

If your GF and yourself both share a special place at WDW, consider that. And remember that it is going to be wonderful no matter where it occurs! Even if its on a bus or the monorail or outside of a bathroom!

I've been reading soooo many ideas!

Well I know how much she loves Disney food, as well as fireworks, so I've been thinking about doing the Private Dinner at the Grand Floridian. That would give us a great meal, privacy and an amazing view of Wishes.

Does anyone know if they still do this?

Cinderella's Royal Table has a proposal package. I also like the fireworks cruise idea.

In front of Cinderella fountain would be nice, or right on main street in front of a photographer (bypass crowds by doing it before a pre park opening breakfast)

For fireworks, maybe on the beach at the poly, and you could use one of the disney photography services to arrange a photo session there.

Are there any other locations that we would be able to have a full meal in private with a view of the fireworks?

As I mentioned before, UK Pubside and Japan inside Epcot are good places for doing this with IllumiNations.

For Wishes you are limited to that GF private dining experience or booking Sago Cay through Disney Catered Events. There are also two spots at the Contemporary Convention Center, but one of them is basically a driveway and both look out across a parking lot:

Those locations in EPCOT, would they be only dessert or could they be fully catered?

They can be, but if you do a full meal the minimum expenditures rocket up into the thousands of dollars instead of the hundreds, and they charge you to set up a tented kitchen where they make the food.

However, you can do dessert with a few savory items like appetizers added in without triggering the meal minimums. You just have to talk to your planner about what kinds of things Epcot can make you without requiring the tent.

My fiance just proposed to me in April with an intimate dining experience at the Grand Floridian on a private balcony while the wishes fireworks were going off (amazing!) we had a personal butler and a cutom 5 course dinner which was the best food i have ever tasted in my life. He contacted a women named Pat Anderson with Disney wish I could post pictures here but if you want to see what it looks like you can go to our wedding website www.mywedding.com/figueiredowedding and under pictures theres our engagement. to me, it was better than the castle and more intimate yet still disney. good luck!

it was AMAZING!!! great food, amazing view of wishes fireworks during dessert, rose pedals on the ground, complete privacy.
