Hi all! My DBF Jeremy (now DF!!) finally proposed late Friday night inside the wedding gazebo at the Disneyland Hotel!
Unfortunately, no pics of the engagement, though .... you'll read why, haha.
This is a TR for our short stay and about the engagement, too.
Details:
DBF had booked 2 nights at the DLH Aug 23-25. We are DLR AP holders so we had a good rate that we couldn't pass up! Thursday night we drove down after I was done with work. We got to DL around 9, checked in, and then decided to go to DL. Meanwhile, I'm starved. Very, very hungry. So I've been whining that I need a snack. Of course, I had one in mind: I really wanted McDonald's fries! Haha. But do I tell DBF this? No, of course not. I thought it'd be fun to take the monorail in... but genius me walked right past the station in DTD. Oops...so we just walked. Then, we walked and walked around DL. Why? Because I'm still hungry. And, very whiny. We've passed up just about every open snack cart when DBF says, well, the fry cart is over by the Haunted Mansion. That's right, it's like he read my mind! Haha, soooo we hauled it all the way from the other side (BTW we were reallllllly close to the other fry stand, but I think it was closed) of the river pond to get me some fries! Yum yum. Did I mention I love him? So, we scarfed those down in like, .2 seconds. Really, we did. And this is when DBF suggested we skip Fantasmic for now and try to catch it tomorrow - the same day we were going to try to catch the Electrical Parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks. Surprisingly, I had no problem with this - I think it's because large crowds like that scare me, haha. Plus we wanted to see how the Nemo line looked. So, we headed over to Nemo.... and saw what was still an atrocious line. Nixed that idea and headed to Fantasyland, where we finally went on a ride!!!! Haha, we went on Snow White, and quickly followed that with Pinnocchio (a first for us - and we were sooo confused in the ride, haha), and then on to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (my first time in memory, his first at DL). Peter Pan was still too long of a line for us, so we then went on over to check out what Adventureland was looking like. We ended up stopping at Pirates and walked right on with our own boat!!! Woohoo! At ride's end it was about 11:40. We headed over to our favorite ride, Indiana Jones. But alas, it was not meant to be, because we waited in line for about 10 minutes and didn't move... at all. We realized there was definitely some mechanical problem and headed out, getting some obnoxious remarks from the people behind us - but we weren't about to wait in line forever only to be turned away b/c the park closed! We're not that silly. Plus I had worked all day and was quite tired, so we decided it was time for the night to end.
Friday morning rolls around... we sleep a little bit, until like 8:30 (we are not park opening people) and are ready to hit the parks around 9:30. I was, of course, hungry, so we were on a search for some breakfast for me. Jeremy isn't really a big breakfast person. We stopped briefly at the Jazz Kitchen cafe when I decided I wasn't hungry enough for an egg sandwich and hash browns - one or the other, but I really wanted the egg sandwich. I was confident I would find this in the park. I was wrong. We went to California Adventure, and we were actually there for park opening - our very first park opening, ever! Haha. Well, we took advantage of the no line for Soarin - and were FINALLY in the middle section (middle row, but still good). (We were very spoiled the first time we ever road Soarin in Epcot - middle of the middle section in the front row so it's never topped that!). Ok, so, Soarin down, and happy Amanda and Jeremy! I am still hungry, but at this point, I'm thinking I have no hope of satisfying my craving. We decided to just do an early lunch after we hit up a couple more rides. So we went on over to Tower of Terror, which we hadn't done in DL yet. OMG I thought it was scarier than the one in the Studios!!! We went up and down soooo many times and they were huge drops for most of them. Jeremy was waiting for the car to move in the hallway like it does in the Studios so he was a little shaken after it, too. At this point we decided to do one of Jeremy's favorite attractions, Muppet Vision 3D. I tolerate this attraction, as we usually do it multiple times over the course of a few days of a WDW vacation, and have done it every time we have been in DCA. So, that's over, and I'm starving. And of course, I'm whiny because I'm hungry and I want to know what we're going to eat. It's about 11:15. I decided Jeremy wanted a burger and decided that we should go to Taste Pilots over by Soarin. This decision was not very tasty. I enjoyed the BBQ sauce on my chicken sandwich but the chicken itself was incredibly dry, Jeremy's burger was also dry, and the fries were ehhhh... You could tell the food had been under the warmer awhile. I blame it on us going to lunch so early, that we got the food the had prepped before they opened. After lunch I have no idea what we did, but we were just killing time until we could go to Aladdin for the 12:25 show. Oh! We went in the Off the Page store to look at Disney art. Then we just went to wait in line at about 12:00. We got orchestra level, but were near the end in the line for orchestra, only b/c I refused to move from the shade - CA sun is H-O-T! Jeremy loved Aladdin - just the right amount of cheesy for him. I do not think it is one of my must-do's, but it was alright. Good for kids, and good for 45 minutes out of the sun in an air conditioned theater.....
Ok, so, after Aladdin we went over to DL. At this point I was very tired, so my memory is blanking a little. I was hot, and I was tired, which means I was getting cranky. But, I don't like to lose park time, so I still wanted to go-go-go. Stopped by Nemo and nixed that due to the much, much, much longer line than it was the night before - 90 minutes according to the guy at the end, but I'd say it was longer than that. We grabbed some FP's for Space Mountain and decided to continue to take it easy. Then we went over to the haunted mansion. After that I really wanted to do Small World, and it's a classic, so we did it. Then we went on the teacups!!!! Which is one of my favorites and Jeremy loves to spin me almost sick on it because I want to go on it. Then, Jeremy insisted we walk BACK to the haunted mansion!!! I was like WHY are we going back there and he wouldn't tell me. So we get in sight of the smoking area, and I really have to go to the bathroom, and I'm fairly positive this is why he made me come all the way over, so I was like I NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM WHERE IS IT and he's like "oh remember it's over in New Orleans". Well, I did not remember. I could not find it. And I ended up walking all the way back out to Adventureland/Frontierland entrance, fighting my way through the crazy crowds in Adventureland. I was sooooo not happy. Not happy at all. It was time for a break. Jeremy knew it. So, Jeremy decided that we should go back to the hotel for a break, and I did not argue. But, along the way we stopped and got an iced tea for me and a Coke for Jeremy, and I decided I was up for some more. So we did the Tiki Room and then the Jungle Cruise. We decided not to push it but to go back to the room - after all we usually go for day trips and don't always have the luxury of a nice hotel room to drop in in the afternoon! Jeremy had basically destroyed his AP by carrying it in his pocket, so he wanted to run by guest relations to get a new one. He tells me this as we're right in front of the guest relations inside the park... and I made him to go the one inside the park. Keep this in mind for later. So the guy of course tells him to go to the bank to get a new pass. Which is what I said the guy would say, btw. So I make Jeremy go to the bank for a new pass... And then we head out to the hotel.
It was about 4:40 when we got back and we had reservations at 6 at the Trattoria in DCA. I just laid in bed. It was nice. Jeremy, on the other hand, was rummaging around in his bag of shoes, and then left to go smoke. He was gone for almost a half hour. I assumed he was roaming the hotel grounds. He came back and had about 5-10 minutes to sit before I decided we needed to go or we'd miss our PS. We went in through the GCH and made it right at 6. Dinner was good, but I highly doubt that the portion of lasagne was enough for Jeremy. My sandwich was WAY too big! But it was good... Then I felt a little bit too full... We went back over to DL for some more rides, as it was 7 and we had FP's for SM burning holes in our pockets. Well.... SM was closed. Bummer. We went over and grabbed FP's for Buzz, and then I have no idea what we did. I think we walked by the Nemo line again. We got Jeremy a Coke. We killed time walking through Ariel's grotto. We looked for a sweatshirt for me. And then we rode Buzz. And I WON!!! For the second time, ever. I was pretty stoked. After that we continued the search for a sweatshirt. And we failed. So we went over to DCA for the parade, and I finally found a sweatshirt. Which was awesome because I was FREEZING and it was sooo windy in DCA. We found some seats and were going to wait for the parade. While waiting we were discussing how long it would take for the parade to get there, how we wanted to bail by 9:20 to catch the fireworks, etc... until I finally talked Jeremy into going to another area of the park for the parade so we could actually SEE some of it before having to leave! Which worked out awesome!!! We saw like 80% of the parade, then made it with minutes to spare for the fireworks. We LOVE fireworks and were super glad to see them. I decided we should try to go for Fantasmic, but Jeremy wanted to go smoke. So that's what we did. Well, what he did. I sat on a bench far away and whined that he takes up too much time smoking and that we wouldn't get a good view for Fantasmic. Jeremy said, don't worry, I think we'll find a seat....
And that sneak was right! He had bought the preferred seats for Fantasmic! That's why he had wanted to go alllll the way back to the HM in the middle of the day when I thouht he was going to smoke, and that's why he had wanted to go to guest relations - not for a new AP at all! He needed to go to the guest relations outside the park to pick up the passes! I was soooo glad to be sitting and the show was pretty good. We decided that we didn't really want to do anything else and were bailing on the parks for our vacation, that we didn't need to go on Saturday (our AP's are blocked but we could have paid), and bid our adieus to DL. We walked back hand in hand and Jeremy suggested that we stop in the room and then go down to the bar. I agreed, it was vacation and I needed a break, even though I was very tired. I demanded that Jeremy remove my camera from his pocket, as I would no longer be needing it since we weren't in the parks any longer. He tried to leave it in there, was like, no it's fine, but I was like Jeremy, just take it out! So, he did.
this is the dessert tray you receive with the Fantasmic seating
the best, least blurry picture I got from Fantasmic. I'm terrible at the action shots.
So we walked out of the Dreams tower and down into the wedding gazebo garden. We stopped in the gazebo and said how pretty it was and kissed and then I said, "Why are we still standing here?" to which Jeremy just kept telling me he loved me and continued to kiss me. So I said it again. And said, "Honey I love you and I want to be with you." Then he got down on one knee and fumbled in his pocket while still holding my hand, and he said, "I love you, Will you marry me?" and opened his hand and the ring was in his palm. It was sooo cute! I said, "of course, yes!" and we kissed and were all smiles and went over to the bar to celebrate. We were soooooo happy!!!!
And now we're engaged!!!!!!!!
my ring!!!!

So Saturday we slept in, checked out, went to lunch at Goofy's Kitchen (which was super awesome!!!! The best character meal ever anywhere, in our opinion, and we're 2 young adults who have been sometimes with kids. It was sooo good!).
so this is a hilarious pic of Goofy's Kitchen - Chip is giving Jeremy bunny ears and he's looking up at him like "What are you doing?" - I LOVE IT.
Then we went on our DVC tour. And man, would that be a good thing for us. The girl presenting to us told us we already vacation like members, and they have a really good deal for Disneyland AP holders right now.... but, now we don't have a down payment as it went to my ring! Oh well. We will buy sometime. Just not right now. It makes me so sad!
And we got to tell the DVC salesperson our engagement story. She was so excited for us! She was the very first person we told - because my mom was down in Florida and I wanted to tell my parents when they were together, and Jeremy just hadn't called anyone yet (remember, 12 here is 3 am back on the East Coast for our parents and family!). It was lovely. Then we just shopped for the rest of the afternoon, and grabbed a quick dinner at Croc's. I finally found something I liked to remember the engagement at the little crystal art place inside the DLH pool area - right next to the proposal site! I was so happy!
this is us, the day after we got engaged, just before we left DL. A nice bellboy that lets a little too much floor in the picture took this one, but I was just happy to get a pic!!!
Jeremy let me in on the fact that he was not sure when he was going to propose. He tried to do it a few times but just couldn't get the nerve. He wanted first to do it going into a park, flashing the photopass person the ring so they'd have a clue what he was doing. He also planned to do it during Fantasmic with our special seats, but couldn't go through with it then, either. And he realized he needed to do it while at DL or else he wouldn't have an opportune and special time for a few months. So, he chose the beautiful garden, which is Disney but not completely Disney. I was so happy. I am so happy.
I'm going to marry my very own Prince Charming!

Unfortunately, no pics of the engagement, though .... you'll read why, haha.
