Energy saving light bulbs..have you tried them yet?

My Dh switched out only about 5-6 of them a few months ago. I never gave it much thought, until I compared this months electric bill with last Nov. We have saved over 600 kwh just in this month, compared to the kwh we used last year. WOW.

Looks like we will be switching them ALL out, and I may even invest in the enery saving Christmas lights my electric company is offering.

Home Depot just had a 6 pack of them for $9. I bought them and we are going to try them.

Yes, they are pricey, that is why we only did a few. But, seeing the difference in the electric bill, makes them worth it.

We use flourescent bulbs throughout the house...They are expensive but have cut our energy costs and they dont heat the house up in the summer. The only down side I see is that the bulb takes a few seconds to totally light up...

We have some here and there, but I don't like the coil ones much looks-wise, and the ones that look more like traditional bulbs are a bit pricier. I haven't really compared the bills to see if it made much of a difference, but DH wanted them, so we have them. I wish someone would invent one that warmed up faster though because I don't like using them in the bedrooms when it can take a couple minutes to burn at its brightest.

We have been using them for a few years now. Don´t use them in lamps where the bulb shows a lot, because of the way they look, but use them everywhere else. Saves a lot of energy which is good, although it doesn´t save us a lot of money, since energy in Iceland is realy cheap.

Since Hubby works for the Hydro in Canada we have them everywhere in the house. We also have the LED Christmas lights up this year. Makes a BIG difference in our hydro bills!!

We have them in every light in the house, except the kitchen which has floursescents. We have drop ceilings and in the kitchen is 2 ceiling lights, weird horseshoe type bulbs, and 2 under cabinet 18 inch flourescents.

I bought the little short guys, so they fit in the globe of the ceiling lights in the rest of the rooms.

Honestly, I havent noticed a difference in my electric bill, but it's never been more than $50.00 so that might be why, maybe my house is electric efficient already?

I have track lighting in my kitchen at 60 watts each. The kitchen lights are on most of the day and evening. The GE "energy miser" spot lights are not energy misers at all and have a short life. When I had to replace them they were at least $5 a piece. Last year I found a package of 6 of the new energy saving spots for $8. with the rebate at Costco. I have gradually replaced the older lights with these and I like them. They stay cool in the summer and do not radiate heat like the other ones and they don't burn out....yet. The down side is that they take a few minutes to brighten up but that's really not a big deal and they don't work with the dimmer switch. I can live with that. Its been nice not having light bulbs burn out.

LOL..we have all electric, heat included. That is why I was comparing last November to this November. We started turning the heat on, I wanted to see the "damage"

I would say anyone who only pays a $50 electric bill every month, is already "energy efficient"

I have tried them throughout the years. My biggest problem seems to be that the fluorescents don't last very long, and that is a huge surprise to me. I have burned out several and if it weren't for the fact that Home Depot had 6 for $9, I probably wouldn't have any in my house at all. I didn't notice much of a decrease in our energy usage because I follow everyone around the house turning off lights whenever they vacate a room.

I am looking forward to the LED bulbs as they should last much longer than either incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. They are just a little too expensive for me right now.

We got some this year for DH's 6' tree. He loves them and I do too. But they are very expensive. He needed new lights, so we gave them a try.

DH "surprised" me and put them in the kitchen fixture. I honestly thought that one of the bulbs had burned out, the lighting was that much dimmer.

We ended up replacing that fixture. The old one had two bulbs, the new one has three. I guess it kind of defeats the purpose, but it's much better now.
