If you use batteries you might want to consider getting some of the Eneloop brand batteries made by Sanyo.
They come pre charged can sit in storage for a year and still have 85% of the charge!
I got some from Wal-Mart, been using them in my little P&s camera and have been real impressed with how well the work. They last a long time I have charged them and went out shot for a couple of hours put it away came back a week or so later and they kept on truckin!

They also work great for off-camera flash. I went through so many rechargables until someone from a Canon forum recommended the Eneloops. Now many folks use it for their flashes ;)
