well its that time of year again.

What is everyone getting for their kids' teachers this year?

:)

You know, I am a teacher, and I got nothing!

At least you are thinking about it...teachers love office supplies, nice smelly stuff for the bath, candles, etc. Avoid candy if possible.

Anything homemade by the kid is nice, but, honestly, they often wind up in the trash...lack of space for all those little gifts.

Yankee candles to preschool teacher and her aides. (Scents: Sweet pea - new and Sunflower) They always love them! This was my last time as dd graduated and they told me they are going to miss my candles!

Applebees gift certificates (Scrip for our school) to 1st grade teacher and her aide.

Awww..Aurora, what grade do you teach? Move to my town and teach my kids and I'll buy you a gift. :)

You didnt get ANYTHING Aurora???

that's terrible!!!

Well Here's a big THANK YOU! From me. Even though you arent my kids' teachers you influence young lives in a positive way and Im grateful for that :)

DS8 and I were just talking about this. His eyes lit up at the idea of giving his teacher a gift certificate for a book store. "Oh yeah, she loves books" was his response.

Don't know what to do for the bus driver yet. I'm thinking a gift certificate to a garden store as she likes to gardens.

What do most people spend on this type of thing? I was thinking about $15 each but don't want to skimp if most people do more.

I teach second grade. I did get gifts over Christmas, but not his time. I have no idea why. Oh well. Its a gift to be starting the summer, really.

DS last day is TODAY!!!!!!! I did $20 at Applebees this year. I have also gotten gift cards for the teacher store. I like the book store idea. Another good one is an entertainment book for your city. They are even on sale right now for $10.

Jennifer picked out a pretty flower arrangement for her Pre-k teacher.

I try to spend between 5 - 10 $'s a gift. But I have a lot of people to buy for. My son, who's graduating sixth grade, has four teachers. My daughter has at least two - regular and basic skills. My sped son has at least six teachers to buy for.

I'm thinking of having them paint clay pots and planting a flower in each one. A lot of times I organize a class gift from all the kids. It's easy and nicer for the teacher to buy one big present but cheaper for the parents.

dd teachers b-day was yesterday and I got her a candle (along with 4 other kids). LOL

We're going tomorrow to a store tomorrow morning that sells all sorts of dinnerware, glasses, frames, etc., that are upscale looking but most of the items are very reasonable. They even wrap purchases, and quite beautifully, I might add.

Last year, I bought the two teachers glass serving dishes that had an American Flag design. My sister is a teacher and said that she thought that was a great idea because parents don't tend to get items like this.

So, we'll see what we can find. I also have to see if they have anything for newborn twin boys, as a keepsake, and for a new baby girl. The kids also have to get something for my BIL's wedding from them, so I have alot of shopping to do tomorrow... in the rain.:( Once these things are accomplished, I get to go home and do touchup painting. Lucky me.

Kevin has a wonderful 4th grade teacher so I'm getting her a gift card for Barnes and Noble and a gift card for Petsmart for her spoiled rotten dog.:p

Danny's school is over and I gave his teachers garden gifts.

John is going to summer school so I'll do there gifts in July, don't have a clue yet.

I generally spend about $20.00.
I am so excited about what I got my DD Kindergarten teacher this year. I got her 20 pads of personalized Post-it notes. It says "From the desk of S. Prejean". I chose her first initial and last name because that is how she signs all parent notes.
I told her not to worry about a Thank-you since she probably has so many to write and not much time.

Hobby Lobby has their stained glass type desk lamps on sale for 50% off. I got her a beautiful desk lamp for $10.00. I thought it was something different for a change. :) The other helpers received candles.

You are a thoughtful parent. :) Thank you.

I know that I, as a teacher, would especially appreciate the notes with my name printed on them. :) And if they are sticky notes, it's that much better!

One of my students gave me a basket full of candy yesterday. Each type of candy was numbered, and the numbers corresponded to those in the following paragraph, which was included in a card:

"It's been a great year! I've had so much fun. These #1 I'm surrounded by have been very entertaining. Perhaps you've heard some #2 when you said the wrong thing. I know we often pushed your buttons, but we really weren't trying to be such #3 . You have been a real #4 and one of the best teachers in the entire #5 . If it were up to me, you would be paid #6 for all you do. Thank you.

Your favorite #7."

#1= Nerds
#2= Snickers
#3= Airheads
#4= Life Saver
#5= Milky Way
#6= 100 Grand
#7= Sugar Babies

I thought this was a cute idea.

My 9 year old dd's teacher is retiring this year, so we wanted to do something extra special. We go in and do mini-art classes with the kids, so a couple of weeks ago, we had them draw special pictures on regular paper. We told them to use bright colors. I scanned them into my computer and printed them out on iron-on sheets. Another mom ironed them onto material squares and pieced together a quilt. We gave it to her today. It turned out beautifully. For a card, she laminated the orginal drawings and bound them into a book. So, she has a keepsake and something she can use. She cried when we gave it to her, so I think it was a hit! :D

I got DDs teachers gift certificates from Barnes and Noble ($10 and Christmas, $20 at end of year). Also at end of year, DD and I make a keepsake for each of her teachers.

I go to an office supply store and buy business card magnets (3.5" x 2"). Usually you can get 25 for $3 or $4. Then I take a recent snapshot of DD (usually just a headshot) and make it 2" x 2", then stick it on the magnet. On the other "half" of the magnet (1.5" x 2"), I print out a piece of paper that says "Thanks for a great year!" with her name and the school year on it. I have done it tha last 2 years and all of her teachers have loved it. Of course now it is much easier since I have a template already done!

As a side note, I was homeroom mom this year, and the teacher and kids made me a gift. They all put their handprints (DD got to do both; all other kids just one) on a canvas bookbag and signed a card for me! Needless to say, I was very surprised!
