End of year teacher gift suggestions? Teachers, now's your chance to speak up!

I have to say the Gift Certificates were my favorites. I kind of liked the ones that were "just for me" like restaurants, movies, ice cream, starbuck, etc...

It was so fun the first few weeks of summer to get to go out to eat, and treat myself after a long year--and have gift certificates for those "treats".

I liked those gift certs more than ones for office stores, or teacher stores. When school got out--I didn't want to think about it for 2 months.

Hi,
Teacher here and I appreciate gc too and most parents know I love DW so I do get disney dollars many times. Gifts I cannot use or like I give to our local Goodwill.

My DS is giving his K teacher a tea rose bush with a note attached to the gift bag that reads.."Thanks for Helping me Grow!" I read that on these boards in the beginning of the year and think it is such a nice idea...

Fabulous idea!!!

I was thinking of getting GC to Baskin Robbins/ Dunkin Donuts for our teachers this year. Usually we give 1 lb boxes of candy from the candy shop, but maybe it's time for something different! :D

I guess I'll weigh in with my thoughts since I started this thread. At Christmastime we sort of go overboard with gifts (DH and I disagree on what to do, so we do everything.)

At the end of the year, I like the idea of having the child write something nice (but sincere...if the child had a difficult year with the teacher, don't make him lie and say he loved his teacher!) I also like the idea of getting the teacher a gift that can be used in the classroom or a gift card for a store that sells teacher supplies, because I always hate it that teachers spend so much of their own money on school supplies. One DD's teacher is always begging for more dry erase markers, so I think we'll get her more of those.

Another thing I like to do is to have my child give the "class" the gift of a favorite book on his or her own birthday. This is especially appreciated by young teachers who are just starting their own classroom book collections.

What I would really like to do [when I win the lottery] is give every teacher I know (the ones my kids have, my friends at church, etc.) a sizable Walmart or other similar gift card at the beginning of the school year to get them started with supplies.

Here's another vote for gift certificates. I received 2 for restaurants today and 1 to a Christian bookstore. I also love the sweet cards and notes parents write. For DD's teacher, we are giving a GC's to a ice cream shop, a lunch restaurant, and a bookstore...things to help her enjoy her summer. For DS's teacher, we are giving a restaurant GC and some chips and salsa from Chili's (her favorite). I also like giving a movie basket with a Blockbuster GC, a couple of bags of microwave popcorn, and some of the movie size boxes of candy.

This is my first year teaching. I would simply enjoy a note telling me that their child had a successful year!! I know when my children were younger, I always wrote the teacher a thank you note for a great year. I often wondered if it was silly and I was just a sentimental old sap. But now that I am on the other end, I would love to receive a thank you note from a parent!!
