End of Vacation Blues

I don't know if anyone else gets this, but I am a victim of the "end of vacation blues". The last night or last day is always very depressing. I'm getting upset just planning it.

I'm trying to figure out something to look forward to on the very last day. Our flight will not allow us to go to a park that day. I'd like there to be something to look forward to so that leaving MK or leaving 'Ohana the last day won't be the end of our trip. I was wondering if there is anything to do at the resort to end the vacation magically? TIA!

I know how you feel :sad1:. I don't have any tips as it seems no matter what I plan, in the back of my mind I know it's ending. We usually just spend our last day at DTD or rent the Water Mouse boats at one of the resorts. They are fun (although renting the boats at one of the resorts on Bay Lake makes me more sad as I can see MK and everyone going there and imagine how excited they are). The worst thing is when you check in at your resort for the very first day and you see someone checking out and the sad looks on their faces knowing it'll be you in a week. :sad1: Ok, I'm depressing myself. ;) Good luck to you!

I don't know we our flight is, but ours is at 3:30pm. We are planning to go to CP for breakfast and spend the last morning in the MK before returning to the hotel, picking up the luggage and leaving.

I try not to think about the last day.

Last time we were at WDW, we went to DTD in the morning before heading to the airport.

We were sitting at one of the little tables by the water and I just started crying because it was so depressing that we were leaving. My hubby (fiance at the time) thought I was crazy, but I just couldn't help it.

We had gotten engaged during our week there and everything was so quiet and Disney-looking at DTD that I just got depressed and didn't want to leave.

We are planning to go to MK the last day this time and we are driving, so I think the DH and the DD4 will have to pull me out of there to get me to leave.

:) :)

I feel your pain! I cry every time we had to leave. I vaguely remember leaving the Disney Magic last year as I was stumbling blurry eyed down the gangplank! And when I go to WDW I usually end up tearing up all the time the last day and half! Going through Disney withdrawal is hard.
I don't know anything to make it better, except to plan your next trip!

stina :wave2:

We always spend our last morning getting a few last hours in at the pool. Each of the resorts we've stayed in has had a changing area with a shower. Our bathing suits go in a plastic bag in our carry on. It's nice to spend the last morning just relaxing before dealing with the airports.

Our very last tradition is staging a picture of my roommate and any playful cast members in the area prying my fingers off and pulling me away from Disney. (At Wilderness Lodge, I was hugging one of the large poles in the lobby. At Saratoga Springs, I was hanging onto the front door.)

For me, the most depressing part of the whole last day is the Disney Magical Express bus ride back to the airport. They play the "Now it's time to say good-bye..." music from the old Mickey Mouse Club show, and it brings a tear to my eyes every time.

We just ended up sunbathing and swimming in the hotel last time.

It was OK though because we knew we were going back. This time however we can't plan another trip for a LONG time - career, schools, money etc just don't allow it. I wasn't even pregnant with DD1 when we planned this trip so it's been a LONG time in the making - 2 years or so!! And the next trip won't be until she's 5 :(

I wish I had an answer for I am too always extremely depressed coming back. Makes it worse when that day job you have isn't the greatest as well. Its a bit like a drug addict having to go cold turkey I guess, there is no painless way out of coming back. You just have to suck it up and do it, (I guess unless you got a job there!)

Hey Becky Boop! We all get those blues honey. This is what we do that kinda helps out. We always have about 8 or 9 in our party the whole week, so the very last day is just for me, dh, & dd. Of course, we spend it @ MK and it is so nice just us 3. Can you go to DTD your last day? That would be nice. As soon as I get back to work on Mon., I start planning my next disney trip to keep me going.
Keep your head up and have a magical day!

Dave - that sounds hilarious. Would you be up for posting them and sharing them with us? :)

Try to focus on the GOOD things about going HOME - for me it is getting my dogs back from the kennel!! By the end of trips I miss them so much I can't wait to get home!!

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only sap who actually couldn't even look at the screen! Even when we heard it on the Disney Magic a couple of weeks ago it had the same effect on me.

To the OP, I am not of much help either but as everyone says, planning the next vacation no matter how far away always helps. Nothing beats a reservation letter on your fridge door and a ticker in your signature!

As others suggested we usually hit downtown disney to get all those last minute souvenirs, we also have rented the sprites.
This time, we booked the pirate adventure cruise for the kids on our last day there.

I always get the end of Disney vacation blues. The bad thing about me is I start about three days into the vacation thinking oh no we only have five days left and so on, especially since I know we only go every other year and it will be two years before we will be back. I am determined not to do that this year, we are going to buy annual passes this year so hopefully that will help knowing we can come back anytime for the next year. We always spend the morning we leave at the resort buying last minute souvenirs and just relaxing.

If you have the time go to the Beach Club Resort. There is an Ice Cream Parlor called Beaches and Cream. It's located between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club Resorts There you can have the most wonderful ice cream desserts. They are big and of course fattening but who cares. We always make this the last stop on our vacation and do we look forward to it. Try it.

Just got back on Friday from a wonderful week at WDW... I keep thinking..."Last week at this time we were at the Brown Derby." Or other various WDW places......I keep doing this over and over! Torture!

I also cry every time I leave! And this is really  but I also cry when I pass through the WDW gates of happiness. I am a sicko, but at least my sickness/addiction is something moral, wholesome and something to be proud of.

Good luck planning a fun last day event. We usually end at Epcot at a nice restaurant before heading to the airport. Since you are not going to a park, why not go and visit the resort you want to stay in next time??..We used to do that but now we have stayed in all of them. :thumbsup2

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

Now that our kids are a little older, we try and book an early evening flight so that we can enjoy a park on our departure day. And we get up super early to get a "crack of dawn" jump on the day. That way, we can be good and exhausted by the time we reach the plane. This will hopefully weaken my urge to run full speed for the nearest transport back to Disney. I really think that complete exhaustion is the only way to leave Disney in a sedate & dignified manner. :guilty:

We won't have much time- being people that like to sleep in, and probably needing a flight at about 2 pm or slightly earlier, we need something quick to do at the resort. Can you get a nice, inexpensive gift type of thing delivered to a room? That might be nice. I checked disneyflorist.com, but (being Disney) it was too pricey.
