End of June weather...break it to me gently

OK, so I'm reading all of these June threads and I'm not worried about the heat (we're from Michigan and savor every ounce of heat and we all tolerate it well), or the crowds (we were at WDW for Christmas '04 and didn't stress about it), but the rain, of all things, is concerning me! :umbrella: I understand that it is the rainy season--does it downpour all day long or what?

We really wanted my daughter to spend her bday there, but if it rains all of the time, that might put a damper on things. Plus, we go to FL for the sun!

What are your experiences?

Thanks,
Amy

Well, I live in Central Georgia, so the weather is a lot the same as far as rain goes (although FLA is a teensy bit warmer most of the time.) Rainy season could mean any number of things. Usually it means a daily shower mid-afternoon (well, shower is not really accurate, more like deluge). Generally fierce, intense, but fairly short-lived.

HOWEVER, sometimes it does rain for days on end in the summer, but that is usually more towards the end of the summer.

Honestly, the rain is often welcomed while it is happening because it cools you off. But when the sun shines WHILE it is raining or comes out in force right after the rain stops - watch out! Heat stroke time!

We were there the last week of June into July 2004. It rained a couple of the days in the afternoon, but not for long periods of time. It was the hottest week we have ever been at WDW (usually go the last week of August), but that doesn't mean it's like that every year. We were also chaperoning 10 teenagers, so that might be influencing my memory!

Our experience in June for 3 years, has been that it does usually rain in the afternoon, but it is a brief shower, maybe 15 - 20 minutes, then it's back to hot an humid. We usually just ducked for shelter for a few minutes uinless we were really hot, then we just enjoyed the cool rain... :goodvibes

I went in July one year, with three small kids, and it was not that bad. Stay hydrated, rest occasionally, and you wil be fine...

Our experience with June/July trips is the afternoon deluge most days. Usually anywhere from 12-6 pm. Usually lasts for less than an hour, usually closer to 15/20 minutes. It doesn't rain though, it torrentially downpours. It can also get pretty windy and lots of thunder and lightening.

Usually one night during our trip we also experience regular old rain, with occasional downpours mixed in. It always seems to happen for one whole evening.

You most likely won't get entire days of wash outs, but then again, that could happen anytime of the year.

We went last June ( and have already booked for this June). THe weather was HOT and it rained at some point everyday, but never for long. Get yourself a misting fan to help with heat. :flower:

We were there last June and have been the past few years in early July. Most days are hot, so drink plenty of water and bring a spray bottle for a quick cool down. A pool break or water park break during the day works well also. It does rain most late afternoons, but not usually for very long unless a huricane is near! We had several all day rains this past June, but that is not the norm. There is still lots to do while it is raining so you will still have a great time!

I remember on our honeymoon it would rain each day at 4:00pm and last for around 30-45 minutes. The first day we caught the monorail back to the Poly and had an early dinner during the downpour. When we went back into the park it seemed as if it was deserted. It was GREAT! The second day we noted the skies were looking omnious and left a few minutes earlier. Again, the same thing. We figured that people had either left the park completely, or as it was 5:30 they had all gone to eat dinner. So once again, we felt like we had the parks to ourselves. This happened every day we were there, and you simply got used to it, or used it to your advantage.

princess: We were in Disney World last June and into July. It rained almost every day but like everyone else said it normally did not last long and we either ducked into a shop or show or were back at our room in the mid afternoon for a break. It did however rain us out one night with thunder and lightening but we made due and still had a great time.

We are planning on going again this june and july as well. It is hot so bring bottles of water and get the misting fan. Take afternoon breaks and rest.

We were there the last week of June in 2005. It rained nearly every afternoon for about 30 min. On 1 day it stormed bad enough and was windy enough that Typhoon Lagoon was evacuated so we went to Downtown Disney and practically had the place to ourselves. On another day it rained and lightning so bad that there was 4 to 5 inches of standing water in parts of Adventureland. We donned our disposable raincoats from teh Dollar Tree and struggled through the crowd huddling in the PoC waiting area to find that you could walk right onto the ride. All the people were taking shelter from the rain but noone was riding. All that being said , the rain isn't a problem if you have a few backup plans in place. And as we all know NOONE on the Dis Boards are compulsive planners and have back up plans :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I feel more at ease now-it seems to mimic what we saw when we went in August with the rain. As for backup plans....we usually have backup plans for the backup plans. It's funny, we overplan, but we are so spontaneous once we arrive in WDW.

All in all, the rain won't keep us away. We just want to see the sun most of the time to give us Michiganders some color! :sunny:
