We are going the last week of August staying offsite with a car(DH, DS 5, DD8 and my dad), and I'm a little bit concerned about the heat.

The plan is to hit RD a park recommended by major crowd calendars, and have FP+ from 10am- 1pm if not park hopping, then make an additional 6pm FP+ before leaving the park for afternoon breaks. Then we will have an early dinner or snack and leave hotel about 5:30pm. We most likely do not have to park hop when we visit MK, since if it's recommended by crowd calendar, then it probably does not have EMH and should be relatively less crowded for a whole day.

When park hopping, most likely we are visiting AK or EP or HS in the morning, where usually only 1-2 headlines are in our must-to-dos(coasters are not our favs), so we will SB the headlines from 9am - 10am, then tour as much as we feel comfortable until lunch time, again afternoon in the hotel, nap and pool, go to evening parks with FP+s.

No idea how miserable it would be in the morning during that time at parks heat wise. Any suggestions or experience to share regarding touring at end of August in heat? Thanks,

p.s. All my reservations can be canceled up to the day before in case there is major Hurricane or unusual heat. But I hope that would not happen...

Maybe I am the only one who never found it to be that excruciatingly hot that week. Last year, we were there for the last week of August and found it to be tolerable in the mornings and afternoons.

It was nice because it was warm enough in the mornings that I didn't have to lug around a jacket and wonder what to do with it during the hotter part of the day. Never wore anything but shorts and t-shirts the entire time.

I brought water bottles, a tiny spray mister, and a necklace fan, and we only really used them toward the hotter part of the day.

Going to the pool in the early afternoon is like heaven.

It rained a couple times, just a big downpour for awhile where the rides close. We just ducked into indoor attractions, and really didn't mind the rain. Some people act like they're going to melt.

Thanks for sharing, and that was inspiring. Even during March, we have to take afternoon breaks, so we could just avoid the hottest part and showers easily.

We've gone 2x in August and returning this August so I guess it can't be that bad for us. lol

It's HOT! No lie - I start feeling the heat 5 minutes after leaving AC place. But you get used to it. Some tips: drink water (even when you don't think you need it), use a mister/fan (I buy at home - it's cheaper and then I give it to some family on the way out so I don't have to use luggage room for it), Wet wash cloths freeze overnight (put them in plastic bags, when feeling heat while in line, take them out and use them to "cool" down) and take breaks.

Enjoy!

Exactly this for us too. We've gone last week of August for 2 years straight and planning again this year. I love never having to put on pants or a sweater. Sure it's hot, but it really doesn't bother us that much. I think it's because there is not a lot of time you are out in full on blazing sun. So many queues are covered and/or inside, many rides are indoor with A/C, the shops/restaurants all have A/C, lots of shade for breaks, etc... So even though you're in the park all day, you're not outside and in the heat/sun for all that time.

The downpours are normal for that time of year, but that doesn't even bother me, it's a bit refreshing really. It's not a miserable cold rain by any stretch. The only issue is sometimes getting soaked and then going into A/C, then I freeze. So in honesty, I probably complain more about being cold in Florida in August than I do about being hot. :rotfl2:

I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in. People out there with dry heat may find the humidty in florida horrible.

Coming in from the east up north the weather is tolerable for us.

We are rope drop-- out of the park by 1. Swim nap and back about 6pm

I'm a Florida native and have lived here my entire life, and every single summer I feel as though I'm experiencing the heat for the first time. You don't get used to it. It's intense, and the worst about our state is the humidity. Just two weeks ago we sat to wait for the FOF parade, and the concrete nearly baked us. Just prepare yourself for the worst and you might come to find it's tolerable. Dress in light colors, in cotton or breathable fabrics with comfortable shoes. Bring sunscreen and use it religously. Hydrate yourself OFTEN (and I highly recommend bringing your own water or drink of choice because the lines for drinks and such can get very long to stand in amidst the heat.) A misting fan, a battery operated fan, a cooling towel, a hat or visor, and a towel or blanket to sit down on if you plan to wait for a parade or anything, are all very good ideas. Plan to sweat, so wear your hair up (if applicable) and try to arrange for some attractions in the AC for little breaks from the heat.

We're going the same week as you (this is our first August trip). We have a similar strategy. We plan to be at the parks at rope drop, stay until about lunchtime. Then we'll head back to our resort (Villas at Grand Floridian) to chill by the pool the rest of the day. We will probably not head back to the parks until after dinner (when it's dark and just a smidge cooler) and we'll stay until park close.

We know we won't get to do everything in the parks on this trip. But with it being so warm out, there's just no way to stay in the parks all day long. We're hoping that with plenty of pool time, this will be a relaxing kind of Disney trip.

Just remember that in August, the sun won't set until well after 8, so 5:30 will still be nearly as hot as noon. Just saying, if you're going to the trouble to leave for a break, relax and don't rush back. The later, the better WRT the heat.

The one single time I was in Orlando in August was for work, and I decided to sneak over to MK and watch EWP outside the park. I was wearing shorts and a tank, hair up, and I was sweating buckets. I could literally feel the heat radiating back UP out of the asphalt/concrete.

Just drink tons of water and take it slow!

I feel better now. And I guess it's important that we shall get prepared either practically or psychologically, then the heat would not be that overwhelming in the end. Thank y all,
