I read something about the end date for this program being 2042. Does this mean no one else can buy into he program, or does that mean that everyone looses their timeshares? I'm sorry for this silly question, but I find this all so confusing.

DVC is not a typical time share that you own in perpetuity.

Depending on which resort you purchase, your ownership interest will last until 2042-2057 (maybe Aulani is later than that) and then reverts back to Disney.

Many people consider this a positive, not a negative, given the difficulty of disposing of timeshares that are yours forever.

SSR ends in 2054 and AKV is 2057. There are some OKW contracts that have extended dates until 2057 as well.

typical timeshares are like real estate. you buy it. you own it until you sell it or will it to someone else.

DVC is more like a lease. you buy it and - until it expires - you own it until you sell it or will it to someone else.

typical timeshares are worth $1 on ebay if you can find a buyer. the cheapest offsite DVC resort is still selling for more than $30 per pt.

i own an OKW contract that expires in 2042. on feb 1, 2042, i will no longer own an OKW contract...but i will also no longer owe annual dues on OKW. due to my projected age, that is a terrific deal.

some are excited by the notion of leaving their timeshares to their children. many children grow up and don't want them, don't understand them and don't want to have to pay for them.

situations differ...

No. You can buy any DVC resort either directly from Disney or on the resale market. No matter how or when you purchase, your end date is fixed to the expiration date for that particular resort, as listed in previous posts. For example, if you purchase a BWV contract today from Disney or on the resale market, that contract expires on Jan 31, 2042. OKW contracts have one of two expiration dates depending on whether the particular contract has been extended or not.

The first buyers at OKW, SSR, AKV, BLT, VGC and AUL will get 50 years worth of points over the lifetime of their contracts. Anyone who bought in the 2nd year or later gets fewer years, even though the prices when buying directly from Disney keep going up!

Those who bought BWV, VWL or BCV as soon as they went on sale will get fewer than 50 years because those resorts inherited OKW's end date of Jan 31, 2042. It wasn't until SSR went on sale that they finally extended the end date, giving those who purchased SSR in the first year a 50 full years.

A short time ago, Disney was trying to get people to pay money to extend the end date, I too decided to just keep the 2042 and not pay to extend, heck it would make more sense to take that money and buy another contract that I can use NOW for more vacations, I don't think I'd be using my points to much in my 80's

I wonder if anyone even bothered to do that, doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, there were people who chose to spend the $15/pt (I believe that was the cost) to extend OKW to 2057.

I'd rather take the $15 per point and put it towards another contract at another resort, especially if people are buying SSR @ $50 pp.

There were but evidently not nearly as many as DVD was hoping and expecting. Clearly the extension was not worth $15 a point. My best estimate is it was worth around $5 a point for most people, $8 at the absolute outside. Unfortunately this has likely cost us the option of extending other 2042 resorts or at least they'll either way a long time to offer and/or tie it in to future retail points purchases.

Just another question about the end date....

If I own at BCV and have a Sept UY, will my last allotment of points come on Sept 2041, or Sept 2042? I think from a previous comment it would be Sept 2041 that I would need to use by Aug 31, 2042, right? I'm assuming there's no banking in that last year. Not that any of it matters a ton to me. By then I will have more than gotten the "good" out of my membership! I'm not far off of having the "good" out of it already!

I've been wondering how the last year works as well. I wasn't sure if maybe we only had from the beginning of the use year to January 31st, 20xx to use them, or do you still have 12 months. That would be a bummer for December use years if they had to use the points in just 2 months. I guess you could use them in the year before too.

BCV contracts end on Jan 31, 2042 so your last allotment will be your Sep 2041 points. As far as I'm aware, there is no detailed information about what will happen in that last year. Based on the end date, you might have only until Jan 31, 2042 to use your points since that is when you would no longer be an owner at BCV.

jan 31, 2042 is the end date as lisas said.

i expect that the last date for stays will be jan 31, 2042.

banking your 2041 pts wouldn't do you any good...but i expect a ton of people will want to borrow their 2041 pts to use them early so they don't go to waste. not sure if this will cause DVC to restrict banking and borrowing at the end of the contracts but i wouldn't be surprised.

I would guess it was only 10 to 15% of owners that extended at Old Key West. Also with the cost that Disney had to incur with everyone having to deny the extension via notarized documents I don't think any type of extension will ever be offered again.

No one knows for certain how the last couple of years will go. One fact is there WILL NOT be enough rooms for everyone to get and use their points the last year or 2, that is factual. They will therefore have to have some method to distribute the points. Options might include allowing some to opt out on points and fees, a lottery, reduced points or some other method to use up points like RCI. I'd predict that they will also allow reduced fees concurrent with any reduced points. They will also have to block banking late in the contract period.

lets see, I own okw (2057), i'm now 53 years old. In 2057 (46 years) I'll be 99 years old -holy cow. I hope my great grand kids will push me in my wheelchair. (I'd hate to rent one of those electric carts):yay:
