I have been consistently walking 4-6x/week for about 5 weeks now- so it has truly become a habit (ya know the old "it takes 3 weeks to make/break a habit")- well this morning I knew I had to do my 4 mile walk- I usually stick to the neighborhood but EVERY walk is the neighborhood and my eyes needed a change. I thought "hey- my parents house can't be that far away- it's Sunday morning and there won't be much traffic on the two lane road- so I headed on down the road." It's also mostly flat- maybe 5-6 gradual hills so I thought it would be good training for the marathon.
I got to see wild roses, a beautiful yellow bird I've never seen before, an armadillo, and the amazing smell of honeysuckle throughout my walk- much more appealing than brick houses and driveways. And I kept the same pace and even towards their house I picked it up and actually "jogged" from power line pole to power line pole- (I learned I am not a jogger but if needed to I could pick up the pace to avoid being picked up by the straggler bus at the marathon) I felt great- not tired and the cool air was wonderful!
Of course I told my mother, "How many daughters would walk miles to wish their mother a Happy Mother's Day"
Then I told my father I needed a ride home!
I had to get back to get ready for church and a walk back wasn't in the picture. They were stunned I had walked but thrilled. We set the odometer and it was 4.9 miles from my house to theirs!!! And I did it in 1 hour and 20 minutes!
All this to say that I'm still 70 pounds overweight and if I can make this pace after just walking consistently for 5 weeks- then all of us can make this dream happen!! It will be so much nicer to have this extra weight off as I attempt a short jog- but I am convinced I can do this- I think that's the hardest part- so go out there and in the next 21 days MAKE A HABIT of walking- you'll feel great and want to eat LESS!!!
Hope this encourages you guys!!!
