Enchanted Tiki Room gets new name, recycled theming

A longstanding Magic Kingdom attraction has been receiving a makeover that will include a name change when it reopens this month. Disney World is scheduled to open the revamped Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room on Aug. 15.

The Adventureland show has roots back to opening day of Magic Kingdom in 1971. Its most recent incarnation, born in 1998, was called The Enchanted Tiki Room — Under New Management.

The attraction, featuring a flock of animatronic tropical birds, has been closed since a fire in the building in January.

The 2011 edition will be fronted by four parrot hosts: Jose, Fritz, Michael and Pierrem the quartet that has been in place at Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room since 1963. The show will include more than 200 birds, flowers and tikis plus crowd participation in the song "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing."

Disney World officials say the new Magic Kingdom rendition will include remastered audio, a state of the art show-control system and an energy-efficient lighting system.

So, is it going to be the same as DL now or will it be slightly different. I like seeing the one in DL because it is like seeing history. And I remember seeing it in the early 70's as a little girl and being so surprised that even the flowers sang. :goodvibes It's also a nice cool place to rest and have a snack. ;)

I can't wait to see it next month.

Will the new version have that extremely loud voodoo goddess thing that comes up in the center that scared my DD silly the one and only time she's been? Maybe I'll be able to get her to go back if it is gone.

We are staying the 9th-13th and DW is not happy she’ll miss the re-opening. Maybe she’ll get luck and they’ll have a soft open a few days early.

Yay! It reopens 3 days before my trip! I can't wait to show my DD this version!

That fire was a blessing in disguise, it brought back one of Walt's favorites!

Not sad to see the "Under new management" version go. :wizard:

...I've never seen the original. However, as so many retro-attractions are already my faves (COP & HOP to name two), I can't wait to see it as Walt intended.

Would love to hear some reports (when it reopens) from someone who saw it "back in the day" and now. :thumbsup2

As a child, I loved it, but my parents couldn't stand it. My mother will be joining us this month and I know she won't want to enter. Too bad she never got a chance to see the "old re-vamped" version. Maybe in her aging she'll have an appreciation for it, I always get a kick out of singing birds.

From the article that is posted, I don't see what the new name will be. They do mention the old name, but not the new name.
Did I just miss it?

Hoping that the "soft open" has already ocurred. Has anyone been lucky enough to catch it? If so, a report would be greatly appreciated. :thumbsup2

It took me several read-throughs to figure that out. I believe the new name is "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room".

I love the Disneyland version. Making WDW's version more like DL would be a-OK with me! :thumbsup2
