Emigrant Direct American Dream Savings Acount

I had mentioned this account here recently in a couple of posts about ING, but it has gotten even better. When I opened my American Deram Savings Acount a few weeks ago it was with an APY of 3.00%, no minimum, FDIC insured, and it works like ING does in that you link it to an existing checking account. The start-up process includes confirming small deposits (and withdrawals) in your checking account and receiving your account number through the mail. My son and I both opened accounts with them (we both also have ING accounts).

To make a long story even longer, I received an e-mail last night from Emigrant - they have raised their savings rate to 3.25% APY!! (ING is at 2.6% and my credit union is still at 1.75%!!)

Does this one give referral bonuses like ING?

You don't mention if there are any opening an account bonues or referral bonues offered?? That would be my selling point.

Unfortunetly there are no sign on or referal bonuses, but the interest rate is slightly higher at 3.25%. I throw my piggie bank change in this account for a higher return.

No, no referral bonus so I would still open an ING with a nominal amount of money if you don't have one but I would also open one of these savings accounts at Emigrant with more since their rate is 0.65% higher! I am in the process of moving most of my ING money back into my checking account so I can transfer it to Emigrant.

There is another online bank that works like ING called Virtual Bank. Paying the same interest rate as ING (2.6%) and gives $20 sign up bonus (if referred by existing customer) and $20 referral bonus. Must be 18 or older and keep money there for 90 days. After that, it's yours to take out if you wish. There is min. of $100 to open account (just transfer from ING...) but it's more free money for a little bit of online work.
