I am an emerald club member and have rented before and loved bypassing those lines. Just wondering...if my DH is going to be driving the car this trip, do I need to stop at the counter?

If you are the Emerald Club member, you must make the ressie in your name and get the car, but spouses as drivers are automatically included free of extra charge. (Check your National profile online -- I can't remember whether your spouse's info needs to be on your profile or not??) No need to do anything special when you pickup the car.

If you do a search on this thread you will see a wide variety of opinions on this. Many people have actually called National and gotten different answers. The consensus seems to be that you can skip the counter, but some were told that the spouse would need the show drivers license and/or sign at the exit booth. Others were told the spouse was automatically covered. Any recent renters with first hand information??

Last time we rented (early June), the ressie was in my name and my husband drove the vehicle out of the garage. (I do the planning, he does the driving.) They just asked for my drivers license and his plus my credit card. Didn't seem to be a problem. Next time, though, I will make the ressie in my husband's name just to make it easier since he is also an Emerald Club member.

No, you do not need to stop at the counter. Our last two trips, I called National before we left and made sure they had my husbands info. So, when we got to the airport, we just picked out our vehicle and drove up to the booth. The only thing they wanted to see was my Emerald Club card.

Thanks for the replies. Now I have to wait for the rates to drop. They are still a bit high for August.
Have a great day! :)
