Heading to CA on our trip out west -- DH, myself, DS (17) and DD (13) are ending our trip to Grand Canyon at Disneyland -- Friday after Thanksgiving to following Tuesday. We are torn on where to stay. Stayed at Candy Cane Inn two years ago over Spring Break in CA -- LOVED the convenience of it! It was so nice to be able to walk to and from the park -- even when exhausted at the end of the day! Only .4 miles away! This time we're looking into a package at Embassy Suites -- but it's 1.4 miles away. Not a problem in the morning when we're all fresh and eager to get there -- but that extra mile will hurt at the end of the day! :)

We're also not sure about letting our kids go on the shuttle alone, since it's apparently not just the Embassy Suites hotel.

Any thoughts on the Embassy Suites? As I said, we've been to Candy Cane Inn and would be happy to go back there -- but at Embassy, we're getting an amazing breakfast and 3 beds (2 doubles and a pull-out couch) -- which is a BIG advantage for our family.

How is their shuttle service? Do you end up waiting a long time for the buses?

We actually drove to the parking lot and took the Disney bus. For 3 of us the price was identical. However, your situation is totally different. They could take the shuttle, or you could simply pick them up later at the park (assuming you have a car, obviously). The shuttle is $6 per day per person for unlimited rides. The bus stop is directly in front of the hotel dropoff area... maybe 20 steps further.

As for the embassy suites, I thought it was excellent. Just get to the breakfast before the last hour or it will be super crowded!

We own DVC and still opt for the embassy suites Anaheim South for our DL resort :-)

Well I have a completely different opinion from the PP. We didn't like Embassy at all. We found it to be very outdated, had to have maintenance to our room to fix the dangling shower head and broken tv. A spoon sat outside our door for two days, who knows how long it was there before we arrived and housekeeping left an entire bag of trash in our room, you know the one they use to gather trash from all the other rooms!!! Usually only 1 or 2 of the 4 elevators were working and we were there for 7 nights. We aren't total travel snobs but we don't like motels and we do like more updated properties. DH travels A LOT for business so he likes nicer amenities while traveling, he's diamond with Hilton so we do stick with their properties. Now for what we did like: breakfast was nice and the evening snacks and beverages are a nice plus also if you are there during that time (we managed twice I think). We also liked the shuttle. It is a private shuttle for the 3 hotels that are all there, the stop is closest to Embassy and it always leaves on time (in our experience). Left hotel at 15 and 45 past the hour and DL on the hour and half hour.

We've stayed at the DoubleTree twice and love it there!
