We are planning to spend Thanksgiving in San Diego. I would like to stay at the Embassy Suites because of our large party size. Trying to decide between downtown San Diego or LaJolla. Any suggestions?

Embassy Suites Downtown is convenient to Gaslamp, Embarcadero and Cornado. (you wouldn't have to deal with parking). To me, San Diego is a perfect size to drive around in compared to LA. Basically you can stay anywhere and be relatively close to everything. I just got back and we stayed in La Jolla (at Marriott) and loved the area. Parking is a pain down by the Cove, but the same goes for all of SoCal. We were close to I-5 and could hop on and in a few min be in Old Town, Mission Valley, and Balboa Park.

Can't go wrong with either one frankly. Not sure if that helps. :confused3

I just visited the Embassy Suites in San Diego. What a great location! We didn't stay, but were looking around for the next time and that is where we would stay. It's right across from Seaport Village. Easy drive to anywhere in the city. SD seems like an easy city to navigate. We were staying at the one in Anaheim and just drove over to look around. Staff seemed very friendly.

The traffic that we saw in La Jolla was REALLY ugly. I'd go with SD.

Depending on where in LaJolla the ES is (I'm not sure) I have to agree with pp, the traffic is NASTY. Both traveling around LaJolla and getting around from LaJolla to other areas. While the area is beautiful, I personally think you'd waste alot of time driving around.
You didn't mention what you wanted to do while you were there, but of the two options, I'd say the Seaport villiage one would be your best bet.

Thanks for all the advice!! It sounds like both have their pros and cons. I currently have reservations at LaJolla, but still have to make a final decision.

I'm pretty sure that the Embassy Suites isn't actually in downtown La Jolla, but rather "up the hill" near UCSD (where I went to college). Convenient to the freeways but not terribly picture-esque. If possible, I'd switch to the downtown location.

Yes, the ES La Jolla is "up the hill" on La Jolla Village Drive, across from the UTC shopping center and one block from the 805 freeway.

The location of the Embassy Suite SD downtown is great. They only issue is the parking. You have to valet park because there is NO Parking lots close by :confused3 . I think the parking was about 20$ a day. Other then that...we really enjoyed our stay. The concierge was very helpful and friendly. The cook to order breakfast was great too. :thumbsup2
