Embarrassed...Retainers with Springs

I'm 19 years old and I went to my orthodontist for the first time in 7.5 years last week and b/c my teeth have shifted some, and my mom (who spent all the money on braces, retainers, pallet expanders, head gear, etc. you name it i had it) and I want to fix them, she said I will have to get retainers with springs on them and wear them 18 hours a day (at least!) for them to be effective for 6 months!!! I am in college! Nobody does that in college anymore! Ahhh, I am going to be so embarrassed and unattractive (no offense to you who have retainers, but it is a LOT different when you are younger and everybody has them...I LOVED my braces when I was in 6th grade).

That is a little sucky.

My sister's permanent retainer came loose last year are two of her teeth shifted and she had to get TWO BRACES. JUST TWO. She just had two brackets on her bottom right side. It looked ridiculous.

She looked like she had some weird type of grillz or something!!

Anyways...that is really crummy, but I'm sure you'll get used to it after a while.


I always kinda liked crooked teeth. I don't mean like gnarly yellowy gross teeth, I just mean like, a teensy bit crooked, it makes people look unique and it's cute IMHO.

But I've got straight fake-looking teeth thanks to braces.
I think if they ever go crooked again I'll just leave em.

lol, its all good.. braces arent as hideous as most people think they are... ive seen a few girls on campus that had braces that looked pretty good, so its not like your the only one

Im not in college so im sorry how i dont know what its like, but i know one of my friends had to get headgear and she was totally bummed about it and then once the time was done that she needed it she was so glad how pretty her teeth looked

When I'm done my treatment I'm going to have a tiny wire glued behind my bottom teeth, some sort of special retainer. And a retainer for bed.

And I'll probably be getting braces soon.
