Anyone else get the email from non-sponsoring site agency which references:

"...prices directly from Disney are rumored to be rising..."

Sales tactic or is the cost per point increasing again?

Didn't the price go up this June already?

Of course the optimist in me takes this as a sign that CRV will be announced in Oct., upping the overall points costs:Pinkbounc

thoughts?

I got it, and I don't think it's a sales technique. She did say it was a rumor and she also said that ROFR has been creeping up (which it has been)

I think the price increase rumor is tied to the AK and CR rumors.. IF (and that's a big IF) Disney announces one of those on 10/1, I expect them also to announce a new price increase.

2 questions;

1. What is ROFR?

2. We are referring here to new purchase prices?

1) ROFR - DVC's right of first refusal on resales (I think of it as a plus, to protect our investment;) )

2) yes

Question:

Just thought about bit in newsletter (page 22) that indicated that existing members don't have to pay closing costs on add-ons but, new members do - is this a new policy?

Four things are certain in life:

1. Taxes will go up
2. DVC points will go up
3. DVC MF will go up
4. One day we will all go to the big magic castle in the sky

Yup. Implemented very recently.

Answer: 100% of your worldly possessions, and a good track record.. :teeth:

The good news is, ownership never expires.... :thumbsup2

last time the price increased a bunch in one year - it was to try and drag out the sales until VWL was up and ready to sell - I think they did it again with BCV.

it increased what 4 times that year.

I hear the apt. in Cindy's castle will be ready in Oct.;

perhaps they'll offer it as part of the Disney Collection

but, HMV sounds much cooler :thumbsup2 .

Since I'm relatively new & haven't followed DVC sales trends for very long; I do appreciate the ROFR process (now that I'm through it) but wonder if DVC is "challenging the market" as to higher buy in rates. When sales fall flat I assume thats when the incentives usually crop up.

Other than incentives, have they ever offered a new resort @ a $/point rate lower than the general public would pay?

That's what I was thinking---They have raise the price several times, but then give an incentive to purchase-- I think they won't have to give an Incentive to purchase when CRV or VAK come out.

I don't recall a single instance of a new resort being announced tied to an increase in the cost per point. But in all specific cases I recall, there was a announcement of a new resort, a fairly short period of sales, then an announced price increase then an actual price increase. I remember several instances where existing members had several months at the lower cost while new buyers were paying more.

So to make sure I understand this, to buy direct from Disney, if you are going to be a new member, you now have to pay closing costs?? I thought this was one of the few advantages out there of buying direct from Disney versus through resale?

That's correct -- new members now have to pay closing costs.

You might still consider it an advantage, since reports are that the closing costs thru DVC are in the $200 range - still about 1/2 of the resale closing costs. (But, don't forget that resale costs are all negotiable.)
