Has anyone seen both of these parades? Are they close to the same or very different parades? If different, in what ways are they different?

The electric parade is much much older. It is still fantastic, and the music takes me directly back to my childhood.

DEP wins on the nastagla front, but spectro is is updated, has better lighting, and newer effects.

If held to choosing one personally I would say spectro is better, but both are not to be missed if you have the opportunity

thanks for the quick reply.

So there are significant similarities? They aren't completely different? If the music is different, in what ways are they similar? Do they have the same general floats and characters?

compleatly different, the only similarity is the lights.

The DEP music is 70's sythisizer music, and like no other music I have heard before or sence, no words either. Not a lot of lighting on the people, mostly on the floats and vehicles.

Take a look here http://gregghall.smugmug.com/gallery/1887146/8/95104554 Starting on page 8 there are pictures of the DEP floats.

They both have all mickey, minnie, goofy, donald but Specto has some newer folks, and DEP has pete's dragon

I have seen both. Other posters are correct. Spectromagic, while not new, is more updated than DEP. I preferred Spectromagic. They are roughly similar types of parades, being nighttime parades with lots of lights. Other than that they are different parades altogether.

Specifically, on the music, the Electrical Parade music is upbeat, high-energy, stomp your feet kind of music. Very happy and fun.

The Spectromagic music is more flowing and lyrical, with a slight waltz feel. Very much more subdued.

I give the nod to DEP, simply because of the music and the energy.

I saw ELP in Disneyworld and was floored by how moving it was. I saw Spectro years later and was equally moved. But I must say that Spectro has better music and more theatrics.

Personally (I know it's not a parade) I like Fantasmic better than both of those other two.

As Spectro is newer, it incorporates some more recent addition to the Disny roster, for instance Genie and Sebastian.

DEP is very special to me as I remember seeing it as a kid my first two trips to WDW... Due to personal issues in my life then, those trips weren't as magical as one might hope for a first trip for a kid (just one example, my second trip I left broken out in chicken pox), but both Pirates and DMSEP are my absolutely fondest memories of those trips.

Spectro is not to be missed though, especially the Fantasia part.

Oh my, this is s tough one. Personally I LOVE the DEP. I saw it when it was at WDW in the 70's. I saw Spectromagic about 5 years ago at WDW and just got to see DEP again just last month. I have to tell you it was like a time warp. It hasnt changed much but that music just took me back. So for purely nostagic reasons, i prefer the DEP. ANother great nostaligic parade is the Electric Water Pagent that goes past a few hotels and Fort Wilderness campground at WDW. It is the same type of music as DEP and it dates back to the 70's. It knocked me right out of bed when i heard the music. It is just great.

I still think of it as the MSEP - and I have never enjoyed a parade more. I was delighted to get to see it again this past week! I still have to go through the photos before I put them up.

I have seen both. I like Spectromagic better as far as the lights are concerned but will always love EP for it's music!

I agree. I just saw Spectro last week and I loved the floats and all, but DL's totally wins in the soundtrack.
