Going on a 3day land/4 day sea Disney World Package. Would like to know if this is good for a friend who is in a electric wheel chair. Yes she is in this wheelchair all the time except for bed and bathroom room. Thanks for your help
Haven't been on a Disney cruise because we always sail on Princess but cruises are the best vacation for someone in a wheelchair. Some of the ports may not be totally accessible but the ships are and there is always something to do on the ship.
I think Kathy (DCLFun) may chime in shortly. She is in a pc full-time with other problems and works for DCL. She will be able to give you lots of assistance.
If you have specific questions that will help.
One thing to be aware of is there is a very limited number of accessible cabins on the ships.
Have you already made the reservations including your friend? When you reserve an accessible stateroom and have a land/sea package you'll also be given an accessible room at the resort you've chosen. It's always best to book early with DCL, not only for the early-booking savings which can be substantial, but also for best availability. The accessible staterooms are all larger to accomodate the turning radius of a w/c and have large bathrooms with roll-in showers and fold down benches. The Cat. 6's also have tubs along with the roll in showers and those two staterooms also have door-assists and openers. The doorways are wider also in all the accessible rooms. As Michican mentioned, some of the ports are not accessible, but Castaway Cay and Nassau, both ports you would visit on a l/s package have things to do and easy access off the ship via ramp. Nassau now has many more shops in it's downtown area that have ramps, Castaway Cay has a paved walkway, an accessible "picnic/bbq" area, and sand wheelchairs are provided if your friend can transfer to one to be pushed down into the water at the beach. The ship is fully accessible and the adult pool has a transfer tier- there will be spaces roped off to view the deck parties on deck 9/10 but you might have to ask a crew member to point them out. There will always be a crew member around to help who has a smile on his/her face. I hope you have a great time!---Kathy
