Hi! I am a long time lurker and made a profile just to ask about this ashtray that I purchased at a recent estate sale. I live in the midwest so anytime I see something Disney that looks relatively old I grab it up! I have found some information on plates by Welborn but nothing much on ashtrays.

The ashtray looks VERY old and on the back it states Eleanore Welborn Art Productions, has a stamp for ASI, along with some other copyright info. The front is a logo unlike any I have ever seen for Adventureland and it is glazed in yellow with a green accent around the sides. It looks like it was never used for its intended purpose (thankfully) and is about a 4 inch square. I guess I am just wondering if I found something special, it sure feels like a special piece!

Sounds like a cool item. You need to keep posting to you can post a photo:)
In the meantime, try doing an image search for "Adventureland" logo and browse around. Does the ashtray have any Disney markings on it?

Thanks for the reply! I have done A LOT of googling on this item and came up with very little. I found some similar ashtrays but have yet to see a photo of the adventureland one of the set. It does have the DL logo on the front and a Disney Productions stamp on the back and looks like a green version of a Fantasyland ashtray that must have came from the same collection!

I will definitely be making more posts this weekend so that I can show a photo, I lurk on most forums because I just don't have the time to devote to a forum presence, since I work in digital marketing and am online basically 24/7 anyway!

Sounds like a very nice item. Gotta wonder when they stopped producing ashtrays, Late 70s maybe? When you're cleared for photos you might consider posting it on the community board too. Not as much traffic on this board, as you've probably noticed. Did you get it at a "garage sale bargain price?"

Yes! I was wondering about the ashtrays myself, it is so funny how 40-50 years ago that was the "trinket" that most people would buy from a trip because they were small and useful. I bought it for $3.00 the few examples that I have seen similar to this were in the $100 range and I have seen plates by this artist listed for almost $1000 on eBay!

Sounds like a bargain! Disney was able to re-purpose shot glasses as "toothpick holders":lmao: I guess they couldn't convince people that ashtrays were dessert plates. ;)
