Can anyone give me some info on this restaurant? I am looking for something different in the MK and I have never heard of this one.

So its a counter service...I guess for some reason I thought it was a TS restaurant. Thanks!

Its only ever open when the park is VERY busy, ie. Christmas etc.

We ate there in June 2008, and loved it. We got the Taco salads, which was just a tortilla shell bowl with some taco meat in it. You then go over to a salad bar and add your own lettuce tomato, sour cream, cheese, black olives, peppers...

I had a belly full of jalapanos and black olives the rest of the day.

I went there on Saturday, and I'd just like to point out that they have changed their menu. They no longer serve Mexican food. The choices were pulled pork sandwich, burger, or salad. I was very disappointed.

No more black olives?!?!?! Oh well, my list of restaurants I want to hit is pretty full, and I hate deciding which ones to skip. I guess this decision was made for me.

:confused3 This is is disappointing! I love their taco salads.

Yeah, I went there ready for a taco salad, and had to look around to make sure I was in the right place when I saw the menu :p

No idea on why the menu change, but I know it's only open when the park is busy.

I heard somewhere (can't remember where) that it was open now due to Pecos Bill's being closed. I was all excited until I just read that it no longer serves Mexican food. What's the point of another burger joint? Oy vey!

What? Pecos Bill's is closed???!!! Oh no, please don't tell me it's true!
I was going to say, you can get the taco salad there...
Was planning on it! :confused3

I forgot about Pecos Bill--they are just closed for renovations as far as I know. Maybe El Pirata y El Perico is serving some Pecos Bill menu items in the interim?:confused3

I'd say that's definitely the case. Makes sense. El Pirata is only open seasonally, during the summer and holidays. I wouldn't doubt it if El Pirata and Peco's shared the same kitchen since I know Pecos workers work El Pirata when it's opened. When Pecos is back up and running, El Pirata will be back to Mexican during Spring Break I'm sure.

It is stressful enough never knowing if we'll have El Pirata Y el Perico, but now to think that the menu has changed. I can't take it. It's our favorite. Someone please keep us updated on this..ahhhhhh:faint:

I was so upset to hear about the bbq that I totally forgot to answer your question! So normally they do not serve bbq here.
When this restaurant is open (that is to say, during the busy season, before 3pm, when the planets are aligned, and the gods are in your favor) then what you normally find here are tacos, too big to hold, quesadillas for the little ones, taco salads and a fixins bar with a mexican flair. This place is yummy!!!!! It is a nice change from burgers and dogs, I know that.
To address your confusion in thinking it was a table service, I believe once about 4 years ago they did open it up as a buffet or something as a test, during a busy time. Maybe It didn't take (thank goodness) because this is our favorite cs (when it is open).
I would only be happy with this turning into table service if it actually served as a pirate themed or boy oriented character buffet. How cool would that be?! I mean not all of us have princess princess: . Some of us are mothers to pirates pirate: !!!

You nearly had your wish. When I worked at MK in 2007, I worked in food in that neck of the woods (Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square) and they were going to kick us out of our kitchen so that they could turn the old Adventureland Verandah into a restaurant themed for pirates.

Pecos Bill's is currently down for rehab. El Pirata is open and serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and pulled pork sandwiches. Once Pecos is reopened, they will return to their normal menu of tacos and taco salads. Also, as of yesterday, The Golden Oaks Outpost was open. They have chicken nuggets, fries, a vegetarian pita wrap, and a very yummy fried chicken sandwich! :thumbsup2
