Eeek! Possible happy news about Summer travel!

So excited to see light at the end of this tunnel. For this summer, I am planning to stay put in Ontario and visit a friend's cottage as frequently as possible. But now I have hope for a Disney trip in Dec/Jan. And maybe...maybe....activating the 2 Annual Pass vouchers I am still hanging on to :) :)

I really don’t think we will see flights go down .. look at just us all super excited to go and booking.. I think prices will go up and up as we get closer and closer .. supply and demand

Breaking: Blue Jays are moving their home games back to Buffalo in June....maybe because it's closer for Canadian fans? Could they know something about cross border travel opening up that we don't?

I doubt it. Didn’t they play in Buffalo last year?

It's why I never fly out of Canada. Too over priced when I can drive across the border and fly cheaper in the US.

The border possibly being open soon is great news. I may actually get to go back to the best park in the US.

In 2019 I bought tickets to Cedar Point for 2020 on Black Friday as they had a promo for ticket w/Fast Lane+ fo $60 each. Last year got cancelled but thankfully they allowed the tickets to carry over to 2021. I was getting nervous I wouldn't get to go but now there's a potential hope I'll be able to go at the end of the summer.

Keeping my fingers crossed

I'm half joking. I know they were in buffalo last year, but have been in Tampa all of this season.

Jays moving up to Buffalo is primarily due to the weather. Their field in Florida is outdoors and come June the outdoor heat is horrible and you have the frequent unpredictable thunderstorms that can play havoc with the schedule. It's why the Rays and Marlins both have indoor stadiums.

Maybe more hope???? Giving me butterflies that I might be able to book that trip for the start of December to see my daughters dance at Disney

Try and temper your excitement based on this because there are several moving elements to consider AND it's coming from one single senator who has a lot to gain from CDN travellers. I'm not sure how comfortable the US will be with the fact that most of us will only have a single dose for several months yet and that will also play into how comfortable our government will (and should be) with allowing in more people since we're still vulnerable to getting ill. The one point he mentions might be a sticking point for us "However, with vaccine hesitancy becoming an issue in many states, the pace is slowing down"

How will proof of being vaccinated happen between our 2 countries needs to be dealt with as well, we appear to be more willing to provide proof than US citizens are but that remains to be seen once push comes to shove.

YES, all of these vague announcements, statements, articles and news reports are pointing to the border opening and that's a light at the end of this very long tunnel! But we really need some firm direction from both countries to happen before we'll be booking anything.

Until our provinces haven't been in lockdowns for a few months to ensure their own safety, I don't see how we can open to the US this summer. It will be fall 2021 at the earliest as that is when our "herd immunity" with double vaccinations should be met.

I don't think they will wait that long. Based on all of the different chatter my guess is they will open it once:

a) daily positivity rate reaches and maintains a certain low % (likely under 5% positivity as this is the number scientists have been toting for a long time that you want to be under that amount)
b) a certain % of the population has received at least their first dose (probably around 70%) and then
c) only allow people who have been fully vaccinated to actually cross the border without restrictions (i.e. vaccine passports)
