Eeek, Now I'm Afraid To Report!

The other day in the Pirates Lobby, I was waiting for a game to start when my attention was drawn to a conversation going on between three people. The conversation went something like this:

Just a side note- I never said anything the entire time this was going on. I just watched, and reported.

Boy 1: Hey, so-and-so is on im.
Girl: Really? Finally! I'm going to log on. brb
Boy2: What's im?
Boy 1: A type of messaging
Boy 2: How can I get it?

At this point, I'm not listening anymore. I have left the game, clicked report on Boy 1 and I wrote something along the lines of this:

This player was just talking about 'im' and when he was asked what im was, he explained it as a type of messaging. Then he explained to another boy, how he could get im. I believe that this is sharing info. (I couldn't say personal in the VMK dictionary)

I know that my report wasn't exactly the best way it could have been explained, but with the limiting dictionary, and limited time I had, it was the best I could do.

I waited a few minutes, and was surprised not to get the usual ''Please use the ignore button blah, blah, blah.'' Unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant surprise for me, because I got this back from staff:

Huh?!

I was so confused- I hadn't even said anything! Did these players get a warning too? I didn't even get the report button message back from staff, just a warning!

Back when I was still a Guest, I had made the simple mistake of telling somebody what grade I was in, and I got a two hour ban. But this boy was actually telling someone how to contact him outside of VMK, and I never saw him ''disappear'' or anything! This person could be a pedophile for all they know! Does staff not realize which of the two situations is more severe?

I'm afraid to report now, in case I am banned for something that I didn't even do! The players in VMK should not be frightened to report someone who they see breaking VMK Values, and sharing unsafe chat. I think something needs to be changed here, I don't appreciate getting a warning for doing my part in VMK, and wouldn't it be breaking the Values not to report?

Please, any feedback on the incident is appreciated. Was it the way I reported, or is it just an automated system?

It says it's a 'Staff Alert to the Room' meaning everybody got it, and it was not just you. Do not worry about this as it's a gerneral warning not just centered towards you, but the people talking about that. I was once in a room and nothing bad was going on and got a Alert to the room, and it had nothing to do with me, and I was told by staff to ignore it. It is a general warning to the room and I wouldnt worry about it

Another DISer and I were chatting for a bit after a trade sometime in July, I think it was. We were talking about Expedition Everest and some other rides. This girl comes in and starts asking if we were in middle school. I didn't notice and neither did the other DISer until a staff alert popped up in the room and was very similar to the one you posted (more general one about personal info). I was pretty panicked myself at first because we hadn't said anything to the girl, and yet I was afraid this went on our records. I don't believe it did, but I suppose you never know.

Something similar happened before (another sharing personal info staff alert) in the fireworks lobby, and the only thing anyone was talking about was hidden mickeys. Someone must have been saying something in trade or via messages. My guess is they send out the room alerts when there's multiple people involved so they can squash the behavior ASAP, although that's only a guess. Try not to worry about it. Hopefully you should be fine.

Phew, how could I have missed that? Oh, it doesn't matter, I'm just relieved that it wasn't just directed at me after all!

I suppose that I should be satisfied, but for some reason I'm not... I mean, I was banned for two hours for saying what ''level of school'' I was in. I was a Guest, and I didn't know any better, but this person clearly should have known better than to share personal information. Based on the clothes and pins he was wearing, he looked as though he had had VMK for a long time.

I have trouble believing that staff would throw out a ban for giving your age, and just a simple warning for telling someone how to contact you outside of VMK. What good is it to a pedophile if they know how old somebody is, but they don't know how to contact you properly? To me, it's clear which offence is more serious.

I was sitting in Town Square the other day, by myself people watching, sort of, and there were a few people talking about where someone lives. I was sitting and not talking at all, so I know it had nothing to do with me, but a room alert popped up warning people about giving personal information. For about two minutes after the alert, no one in the room could "say" anything. Everything I tried to type would not show up and then I noticed a bunch of people using the emote symbols. After two minutes, people were saying that they could not type anything either. VMK actually stopped the room from talking! Anyone that came in after the warning seemed to be able to talk. Was very interesting.

You know, I'm actually glad to hear that. Sounds like a good preventative measure on VMK's part. I've sometime wished we as players had such a "mute" button for the times that staff doesn't catch a potentially dangerous situation.

Sparky do not worry about that message it was a general room alert. In my eyes what it means is staff is going to take immedaite action. That is a very serious stitation and staff need to go back and recheck the room log to see exactly what is said so they can pass out any ban they need to but in the mean time they want all convesation like that stopped and that would be the easiest way to do it. Not to worry you did the right thing. Good Work

Fly and I were dancing on the bottom floor of the Haunted Mansion Attic the other day after completing an NPC credit run. There were a few other people in the room but they weren't talking about anything against VMK values that I noticed. Anyway, I got a warning about Pretending to engage in adult behavior like "making out" or "making babies" and some other stuff I can't remember is against VMK values and can get you banned. I assumed the warning was sent to the entire room and thought the warning was weird. But Fly didn't get the warning so I have no clue about why I got it.

Fly and I were not pretending to "make out" or "make babies" or anything resembling such activities. We were dancing with a very tasteful amount of space between us and we weren't saying anything. Granted, the silence between us was quite unusual but I don't think that constituted an adult behavior that is against VMK values.

FYI, I have taken part in some conversations that warranted a warning but I KNOW I was well in line with VMK values when I received the warning about "making out" and "making babies". Color me confused.

i was in a room yesterday and lots of people were saying 'im going to report' to the owner and about 10 ppl reported the owner ( im not sure what for as i walked into the room just before the owner left then the room got an alert from vmk staff saying dont report if somebody is annoying you, its agains vmk values or something so obviously it had been something stupid that they reported for. i was shocked snd thought it was for me but then i realised.......
