My DH and I are not big Edy's fans and we noticed that besides at the sweet shop on Boardwalk that now Beaches and Cream has Edy's. Our last two trips we have had delicious sundaes there but this time our ice cream was bland..so disappointing. Maybe it was Edy's all along and since we just had a cone this time it was more noticable that it was Edy's?? anyone have info on this. ? guess i'll have to make up for it with a local trip to Ben and Jerry's but it's just not the same!

Totally agree! We found Edy's at the Plaza restaurant in MK, too. We can pick it up at Stop & Shop any time. I was also disappointed by this.

As far as ice cream goes, we stick with an occasional Mickey Bar, or Dole Whip. Or Root beer float . . .

Investors like profits......probably changed vendors/food suppliers, wherever they can cut the costs, the consumer is basically the last in mind..............................

We went to Ghardelli's a couple weeks ago, and their chocolate ice cream, wasn't the same either-cheap ice cream, that I can get locally!
My dh said the same.
After 18 years of going to WDW/FL we find alot has changed at Disney, subtle changes in food, resteraunts, resorts, etc etc but what hasn't?! Investors want profits.......we spent alot of time at Universal on the last trip...........
Change back and fourth................

4/10 next trip.....need warm FL Sunshine!:beach:

It was Edy's all along. It may be that Edy's is changing their ice cream recipes? It has been several years that WDW has been serving Edy's. I love the mint chocolate chip at the Plaza and when the server told me it was Edy's I was shocked. Now this was about 4 years ago, so like I said maybe they've changed recipes?

Because of Beaches and Cream, we can no longer have any other chocolate ice cream than Edy's in our house. My dd just fell in love with it several years ago!! No accounting for taste I guess.

Edy's (aka Dryer's depending on what part of the country you are in) is a Nestle brand. Disney and Nestle have a "close" relationship - just like its hard to find "real" coffee in Disney due to the Nestle relationship - its hard to find ice cream that isn't Edy's.

This is one of the reasons I'm always shocked by how much praise B&C gets for their sundaes. Its grocery store ice cream - and it isn't even high end grocery store ice cream. But the toppings are extensive, which does hide the cheap ice cream.

i agree i'm no the biggest edy's fan either. the ice cream at beaches and cream was just o.k.

Sorry but I love Edy's ice cream, especially the lowfat cookies 'n cream. However, going to WDW I would rather spend all of that money on something a bit more high end than what is in my freezer but I'll deal because the experience of walking along the Boardwalk with an ice cream cone and seeing fireworks and listening the banjo players just make me too happy.

Good for you disneycake! We should all be focussing on the "being happy" part! LOL!

sorry, didn't mean to be a stick in the mud. you know what we did discover though, gelato at the Beach Club, yum yum! so that made up for it :goodvibes we did have EXCELLENT burgers at BC by the way and the root beer float was delicious, too!

We like Edy's! Living in Blue Bell country, that's all we eat here - don't have Edy's, but we've been quite happy with it at the food court at POR the last several years - we always ask for a 1/2 choc, 1/2 mint chip shake - it's the best!

BTW, we just got a Ben & Jerry's nearby, so I took my DD. So gross I couldn't eat it - spent $7 on 2 tiny cups of ice cream, and DD didn't like hers either! To each his own! I don't have a problem with GOOD grocery store ice cream!!;)

You are not a stick in the mud at all! Gelato at the BC?? I am so going to have some...good flavors???

I loved the Strawberry Minnie Ice Cream Bars offered in the parks....once I found out Edy's made them.....my search began.

We also have a lot of Blue Bunny ice cream in our area, but I'm determined to find Edy's Strawberry Bars (they were awesome)!!

I think Edy's is ok...I like any ice cream actually. Especially Cold Stone. Too bad they don't have an outlet in Disney.

I do have a question though...what is a dole whip and where can I find one while I'm there in June?

Edy's over Blue Bell!? Blasphemy!

If Beaches & Cream served Blue Bell, you'd never get my DH out of there!

They have at least 10 flavors of gelato at BCV as I recall and they are delicious.

I have no problems with the quality of Edy's ice cream especially when it is vanilla in a hot fudge sundae. ;) They just don't have many flavors to choose from at the Sweet Shop at BW. :( If you want something more gourmet, you can try Ghiradelli's at DTD Marketplace. :thumbsup2
