On our trip to DL last year, we stopped at the Grand Canyon. I took a picture that I love, but I would really love to edit the people out of it. What is the best way to do that for someone that has never used a photo editor? I want it to look good enough, after being edited, to be able to make a large print out of it, even with my nonexistent knowledge of photo editors.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I usually use the Content-Aware Fill function of Photoshop CC - just takes a few seconds to remove Tinker Bell's zip line from castle shots.

If you're willing to post the image then I could give it a shot.

That would be amazing. Thank you for the offer. I'm helping my inlaws open a new business, and I've been so crazy busy. When I can get my laptop up later, I'll post the picture.

It will depend on the background where the people are located, etc. if the people are just specks, they are easy to remove with photoshop. If they are covering detailed background, removal is much harder. Computer can guess as to color and texture replacement, but not details. You may need to clone other parts of the picture, to create an approximation of the background.

Another option if you're not as keen on buying a photo editor and trying to learn for yourself, or discover that the simple tools don't work and you have to get more advanced with cloning brushes, is to post your photo online, or a thread asking for help with the photo and then send the full-size shot by e-mail to users willing to help) and let experts and hobbyists to the editing work for you. As you can see above, you can find some willing to help here on the photo boards, or you can go to a photo site like dpreview and visit the 'retouching' forum there. Lots of people are willing to perform basic edits like this for you, sometimes just for fun or practice...and you don't have to buy a photo editing suite you may never use again.

If on the other hand you want to learn more about photo editing and think you'll really start to use and enjoy it, by all means buy one and have fun!

If you do decide to let someone take a crack at it via the DIS. Email or upload the original format of the photo. Posting on the internet will reduce it to 72 dpi which will not be good for your end wish of scaling the image up to have it printed. Working with the original format, especially with photographs, is the best practice for a better end result.

Out of curiosity, how big are you wanting the final image to be? Sorry, this is just the graphic designer coming out in me.

Here's the picture. It took me a while to find it again. I took over 5,000 pictures that trip. Worst case, I since it's a panoramic picture, so if I have to, I can just edit out the part with the people.

The image you linked to is 33KB and 800x240 pixels - pretty small to begin with. However here's what I came up with:

Thank you so much!! It's perfect and way better than anything I could have even attempted to have done. It's a picture I took on my iPhone.
