I thought you can't upgrade them until you're scanned into the parks, or am I mistaken? I would do that, but I'm not expectingkeys to still be available by the end of January.

You can upgrade any unused full priced ticket media to a pass when pass sales are open. I think you could upgrade your purchase to a pass and just not activate the pass until your trip in January. It's worth a call to find out.

Yay yay yay yay yay!!!! Now I can finally get my boys their own Magic Key!!!
FWIW, I think this may actually help with crowds - I wonder how many people were in a similar boat to me and were purchasing single tickets for their family, thus necessitating spending ALL DAY in the park to feel like we got our $$ worth. Now we can pop in on a Friday night just for dinner and a show... well as much as you can pop in from an hour away. Yay yay yay!
Wonder if you can upgrade on your last day in the parks? And would there be any value applied from your park tickets?
going over xmas when all passes are blocked but would consider upgrading on our very last night in the parks

This is why I’m surprised they announced this now. So many people will now try to buy day tickets during the blocked out period and then upgrade afterwards. It will be interesting how Disney handles this
Scott Gustin just posted this. Unused tickets can be upgraded... in person. (Not great for me out here in Vegas, but good for anyone in the SoCal area.)
