I have a solo trip coming up in a few months and I think I will need an ECV this time. I’d like to rent from an outside company but my options are limited since I will have a rental car, to a portable model that doesn’t have as long lasting a battery. I could make do with that but my main concern would be dissembling and assembling probably several times a day by myself. I’ve watched the video from Golds Mobility on how to do it and they make it look easy but I’m thinking it might just be too heavy for me to manage. Anyone have any experience with this and how did go for you?

I could just rent daily from Disney even though it’s more expensive. I’m ok getting from the car to the front of the parks or around the resort but it would be nice to have one for the whole trip and not have to worry about Disney not having one available during park hopping. Anybody have any suggestions on what might work best? TIA

We don’t rent a car anymore because it’s just too much hassle to tear down and load/unload our ECV even though we have an “easy” travel one. The battery is held down by Velcro and weighs about 30 lbs. I just don’t have the upper strength to pull that battery straight up to pull it away from the Velcro at the same time. I wish they made a Pride Go-Go that uses the lighter lithium batteries.
Anyway, we either use a taxi or the Mears shuttle/bus from the airport and Disney transportation while at Disney.
Good luck on what you choose.

I have a GoGo - it’s actually pretty easy to break down and put back together…

The Go-Go is very easy to break down and put back together. I didn’t mean to say that it wasn’t. When my husband was still in good health, we did it every day. As one ages and strength disappears, it just get harder for a woman with less strength to unseat that heavy battery from the Velcro and lift it straight up as one needs to. That’s what I was referring to. 😁

Is there any way you would skip the rental car? If not, I would just get to the parks early every day and rent from them.

I do need the rental car as Im going to some off property places too. Plus, I really loathe the busses! I might end up just getting there early this trip and see how that goes.

Thanks! Im not sure what Im going to do yet. I have carpal tunnel so Im kind of concerned about lifting that battery.

I appreciate everyone's input.

Can you stop by one of the local ECV shops in your city? Many carry Pride products and they would let you check out the Go-Go Sport (I suggest the 3-wheel). Have them show you how it comes apart and goes back together and try it for yourself. You’ll know pretty quickly if it’s going to work for you. If it seems okay, set up your rental in Orlando and then you won’t have to worry about going super early to Disney or fear not being able to rent one at the park.
No matter what, have a great trip to Orlando. 😁

That’s a great idea! Thank you

So do I, but DH was sure that the batteries in the Go-Go we rented was heavier. When we got home, back to my regular Go-Go, he commented on how much lighter the battery was. Frankly, I don't think I'd attempt it.

Gold generally equips scooters with extended range batteries. Go farther but weigh more. Most guests like the extended range.
