ECV in July

hi! this will be my first time coming to WDW with an ECV (renting from an outside company). I usually use a cane or walker at home but because of all the walking I am going to be renting an ECV. Question - what tips do you all have for keeping the ECV dry during the rainy seasons? I am hoping to park my ECV and walk around in a land, etc., and don't want it getting soaked and have it short circuit. THANKS

If you rent from Gold Mobility, they will tell you what needs to be covered on your particular model. Generally speaking though, it is cover the tiller using a shower cap (which Gold Mobility provides), the nice thing about this solution is that if you need more shower caps, you can stop by the front desk at your hotel and ask for some, although some fit better than others.

Another tip for rainy time is line the basket with a plastic shopping bag and cover it with another shower cap, this helps keep the contents dry.

I use a child size poncho--it will cover the tiller and the basket and my hands while they are on the steering bar so they don't cramp from the cold and rain. The poncho over me covers me and the chair, the one over the tiller comes down across my lap and all the water falls to the sides keeping me and my stuff dry.

Yes, last year I got caught in a downpour at AK. Clear plastic over the tiller (handle area), a pinch over me as well. and I was safe! Leaving AK, there was a "puddle" that people were taking their shoes off to walk thru and the water was up to their ankles. Fortunately I found a way around it (but I wanted to let you know how sick and heavy the rain was). It got me back to the bus for OKW, and at OKW, from the bus stop to my building.

Depending on the scooter, in the rain I will often throw the *Front* of my poncho over the tiller (to keep my hands/arms dry) and the *back* of my poncho over the seat back, so that it falls down the back side of the back seat.

That covers both me, and the scooter - and while it might look weird, it gets the job done!

If you have to park the scooter while it is raining, fold the back of the seat down (if so equipped) over the seat base to help keep the seat base dry. You can also drape a poncho over the scooter while it is parked to help keep the seat dry as well.

Even if it is sunny, you should at least fold the seat down, it will help keep the seat cooler when you come back, but also in Florida it is entirely possible for it to be sunny when you enter and leave somewhere, but for there to have been rain in between.

Yup, learned that the hard way! Sunny both before and after I went inside for lunch. But I came out to a very wet seat.
