ECV (electric wheelchair or scooter) rental

Can someone tell me how I would rent an ECV or scooter for 2-3 days while there? Thanks..Julie

Def use one of the companies that deliver them to your hotel. When we went with my mother May of 2008, we got to the park early in the morning and then ECV's were all checked out!! She had a torn meniscus and was absolutely miserable trying to hobble around the park, which made it very hard on all of us.

When we went in Dec. my mom used Deckert's. We really liked their service, they delivered and picked up the ECV (for a small fee, of course) and had a long enough power cord. She used it to go back and forth to the parks and when we were going from land to land, but she almost always stood in the regular queue. I don't think she used the handicap accessibility with it more than a few times our whole trip. She needs to mix up walking, sitting and standing, so using it for going longer distances was great and then walking the shorter distances was good. She made my dad use it a couple of times since his back started bothering him from all of the walking.

I went with Deckert's when I rented one for my mother, thanks to recommendations on this board. They are awesome. It was so easy -- the scooter was waiting for us at the hotel when we arrived and we just dropped it at the bell desk on the way out of town. I was also impressed with the price, especially given the quality of the scooter.

I highly recommend taking some time to practice driving it around, especially backing up, before heading to the parks. The first day we were there I was convinced that we could not survive the whole trip without injuring a child, but by the end of the trip my mother was driving it like a pro. It just takes a little practice, and it helps if people are there to keep kids from darting behind it when the driver is trying to back up out of a parking space. Or better yet, put it in neutral and push it backwards.
