Anyone reconsidering their planned trip due to the economy? I don't mean to be an alarmist, but we are facing a serious situation whether or not the "bail out" (I prefer investment) is passed. Just curious as I am re-considering pushing back my trip until my finances are more secure.

if we owed anything but our Mortgage and Car I would say yes but since we don't we pay down our debt every month so we really aren't changing anything.

We are planning on a cruise next year instead of WDW vacation. This will save us park tickets & food costs :thumbsup2

I had always wanted to do a Disney cruise, but DH wasn't sold on the idea until I reminded him that food was included :hippie:

No. I have a long term financial plan & the economic rollercoaster we're on shouldn't touch it. What would make a difference is my job status, if that were to change everything would have to go into a holding pattern with a recovery period. Will the economy change this? Possibly (AIG & WaMu are 2 of our 60+ clients), though I pray not.

Well, This is our "nearly free-trip" year because we are always paying our DVC "forced budget" and bought an AP last Nov.
We always use our spare change and garage sale $ for the rest of the vacation fund, so this year, no problem, and I love how DVC has made these continued vacations happen!

We're not canceling our trip, but we are kind of holding back on purchasing BLT points. If they offer a really great incentive though, like developer points or especially an Adventures by Disney trip then we're still totally in!

Shucks... If my bank fails my vacation money is going with it. May as well use it before I lose it!! :thumbsup2

Fortunately my DH and I are doing fine despite this economy but it sure is hard to not get caught up in the fear of this whole thing and try to cut back where we can.

As of now we have a few trips coming up in the next few months and we'll probably just try to cut costs where we can. simple as that!

Well, we had just bought into DVC and have the points for a trip next August. In a sense then the room is already paid for.

Last year we bought non-expiring 10 park hoppers with water&more, and still have 6 days left on the park and 8 on the water parks.

So, now I basically have room and park tickets covered. We'll definitely eat off property more and back at our room (you can make a lot of pasta really cheap). I find the park restaurants to be way way too expensive for what you get, including Le Cellier (OMG gasp!!)

I also think we'll driver instead of fly, that will save us approx. $400 or more.

Unless I lose my job, it's difficult to see us not going next August.

They already did offer a ABD trip for buying into BLT (mmmm, I love bacon). I think it was on the DVC members cruise and it was an incentive to buy something like 500 points. So, all you would have had to do is get on the cruise for around 500 points for your family, and then spend somethink like $53,000 to get that trip. Cheap!!

I'm sitting back and watching right now. Since I work in Wash DC it's in my face every minute, so no escaping the current news and economy. I'm also holding off on my BLT purchase and not ready to jump in unless the incentives get better--even though the funds are ready and just earning interest right now. So far I have 6 trips planned for 2009, but did cash in all of my ff united points to cover airfare for 2 trips. (I figured I better use them before those rules change too).

I'm a DVC member.

I have to pay for my trip whether I take it or not.

So I might as well go!

:rotfl:

See this is the beauty of DVC-- !!!!:lovestruc :lovestruc

We are Using 166 points for my trip in April 09 -- total cost $837 (mf cost)- Airfare- purchased in July for $908 for 4. Already paid for.

Tickets-- already bought back in 2005- still have 9 days left on each.

Food-- I'm going to use my Disney Credit card point rewards which will be about $300 worth by the time I go to Disney and eat in our room for Breakfast and some lunches.

We really don't need to rent a car-- due to magical express. So our next vacation is already paid for!!!

This vacation due to the time in April (easter/april vacation for NE schools) would be $4500 retail not including airfare. Its costing me only $1200 ($837 in MF + cost of food for the week $350). Yahoo!!!!

Nope, absolutely no plans to cancel. We're heading to Disneyland tomorrow () and then we'll be at WDW over the New Year.

I feel like our Nov. trip is paid for basically. We are staying on points, airfare was paid for in Aug. and we have 7 days left on our park tickets and a 500 buck Visa gift card. We will spend some money but I would say 3/4 is paid already. :cool1:

We're planning on going for 5 days in January to WDW and then 9 days in Sept (09) back to AKV :) No plans (knock on wood!) of cancelling :)

We are leaving in two weeks (if we can find gas around here to go:laughing: ) and our trip is basically paid for. We bought annual passes on our trip in May, we are paying for our food, MNSSHP, and fireworks cruise with the $1000 gift card we got for adding on at AKV. We are also going for 4nights the weekend before Christmas. We don't have alot of debt and our jobs are pretty secure at least at the moment. Unless something drastic happens, I don't see us cutting back on any of our trips.

The beauty of DVC is when you can't afford to go anywhere else you can always go home!:wizard:

If times were real tight, I could see us buying gas and groceries and have a nice escape.

We can afford the dues and we already paid for the points.

Nope, we just got back from 5 days of fun at the Grand Californian at the DLR. We have a big Christmas trip coming up this year as well. We see no reason to postpone or cancel. The only bills we have is a mortage that is easily managed within our budget.

With all the news of the economy, the thought of our WDW vacation really keeps my spirits up. I wouldn't dream of canceling! :goodvibes
