Economy Plus - does the price ever drop?

Does the price of the Economy Plus seats ever drop as the flight gets closer? I've got an upcoming trip on United and am considering upgrading my seat. As a nervous flier, the extra space relaxes me a little. My second flight of the day is on a 13 row plane - the thought of it makes my palms sweat.

Sometimes they offer deals to upgrade to economy plus closer to flight when there are seats still open. It’s always a gamble but worth it if you can snag it. I’ve paid as little as $25.

I've never seen the price drop, but as alliecat says, if there are empty economy plus seats available when you arrive you can get an upgrade for cheap.
