9 adults, 5 kids ages 6mos to 11. We're mainly looking for economical eating for dinner. Will carry lunch in. Any suggestions for places to eat that won't break the bank :-) Have park hopper tickets

You didn't say where you will be: I am going to go with Magic Kingdom:

The family meal deal at Cosmic Rays---I've heard is a great deal.

1/2 Chicken and BBQ Rib Combination - served with Mashed Potatoes and a seasonal vegetable $13.99

most people say it feeds several people. You can also just order extra sides like fries for the kids

Or--My family usually orders kids meals for everyone. I find it fills me up.

Or take the monorail to the Grand Floridian to Gasparilla Grill & Games--pizza 16" Cheese Pizza $13.99

If you are taking in lunch and snacks--pack heavy on the snacks. We find we get so excited at Disney that we have to 'remember" to actually stop to eat--snacking all day works for us.

And no matter where you eat there is the extra bun tip I've read about:
Here's a clever trick light eaters can use at counter-service restaurants at Walt Disney World: order one double cheeseburger combo meal and ask for an extra bun. (The cashiers actually have an "extra bun" button on the register, so this is not an unusual request.) Then take one of the hamburger patties off the double burger, and put it on the extra bun. Most of the counter-service restaurants have a condiment bar where you can add any toppings you like to the two burgers. Split the fries and drink, or order an extra drink. This tip works especially well when you have two small kids who don't eat a lot. Thanks to rams408 for the idea.

Well, IMHO, CS meals for family of 4 runs about $45-50. I would suggest rely looking at ALLEARS and see the menus and where you can cut costs...
Cosmic Rays we did share that meal, 2 adults and honestly, I thought it was okay, not stuffed or a ton of food really. I think there is not real "bargain" on food at DIsney other that cutting/splitting/sharing, but to me it would drive me crazy...its a vacation..:rotfl2:..And I spoil myself when away. Meanwhile, just wishing you Luck and heres to a GREAT trip! what fun with all those people!!!!

Thanks so much for the suggestions. We'll be there during the last week of February. We went 4 years ago when money was a little more plentiful but this time we need to watch our pennies a little more carefully :-)

Before I read the responses I was going to say Cosmic Ray's as well if you are going to visit the Magic Kingdom. While the food is not gourmet, it is decent and they have a nice fixin's bar so if you're sharing meals each person can stretch out their meal a little bit. I also really enjoy Liberty Tree Tavern, and if you shared meals you'd be ok too. The sandwiches are huge.

An option at AK is the Picnic in the Park. It is a lot of food. I am not sure on the exact price right this second but I want to say the dinner for 4 is like $32 and it will definitely feed more than 4.

IF you want to have sit down meals, we used to book a sit down for LUNCH (when portions are equally big and the cost is less) instead of dinner. If you have several under 3's who still like to eat buffets may even be a good deal for your group as they will eat free (and milk will be refilled for free at buffets also). we would eat breakfast at the hotel (instant oatmeal and bagels with fruit), have a big lunch around 12:30 or 1:00 (it also gets you out of the bustle of the park in the busiest and hottest time of day) share one or two meals of something snackable in the early evening (like chicken fingers) and then have microwave popcorn, cup o noodles (a "treat" we reserve for WDW only--I hate it but DD and DH love the junk:rotfl:), fruit and peanutbutter back at the hotel when we returned at night.
