Ebay situation... advise please...

I am hoping someone can give me some advise on how to handle this situation. This is my first year buying clothing on eBay for my dd.

I bought dd a NWT Tinkerbell shorts/top outfit on eBay. It arrived today. When dd tried it on, the top seemed a little small. When I looked closely at the tag, the size had been changed. Where it originally said 4T (sewn in thread), the 4 part had the threads removed and a 5 had been written in with a marker (you can clearly see the 4 from the back of the tag). The shorts were a size 5 as the auction stated the outfit was.

I am disappointed that someone would do this and dd is disappointed that the outfit didn't fit. I sent an email to the seller describing the situation. I am wondering how this should be handled. I told the seller that I do not want the outfit as it doesn't fit and is not the size stated in the auction. How are returns normally handled? I have not had to return anything before.

Thank you in advance for any advise you might be able to offer to me.

Carol: I would wait until the seller responses, she may not have noticed it and offer you a refund if you send it back.

It can be different for every auction. The seller sets the terms. Usually I think if returns are accepted the buyer would pay for shipping the item back. Hopefully this is a good seller who didn't realize this problem and will make things right for you.
Good luck.

BlessedMomOfTwo ~ Wait until you hear back from the seller. Hopefully she/he will be honest about it and will work it out for you. It may be an innocent mistake on the seller's part. Although it sounds as though switching the size on the tag may have been intentional the seller may have purchased it that way without knowing.

I sell on ebay and recently sold a women's skirt and sweater set. When the buyer received it she emailed that the sweater was the size as I had listed in the auction but the skirt was a size bigger. I had the set for a while and could not honestly say that when I listed it I checked the tag in the skirt. I may have just assumed it was the same size. Anyway, I refunded the buyer's full payment and let her keep the outfit. I was out a little money but at least my customer was satisfied.

I hope that you're dealing with an honest seller and that all will work out for you.

Hopefully the seller will be nice and honest and will refund you the money AND pay for your return shipping.

I sell a lot on ebay and if someone were to complain I'd do anything to make them happy.

If it isn't resolved with a refund and reimbursement for your return shipping cost then they can be reported to ebay for not selling items that are listed properly.

A friend bought a Coach bag a few years back from a seller who SWORE it was authentic. My friend considers herself a "Coacn Conniseur" and when she received it she felt it was a fake. Took it to a Coach store where a VP happened to be visiting and it was confirmed that it wasn't Coach. The seller kept trying to pull it off as authentic until it was specifically pointed out to her why it was a fake. It took a few emails and follow-ups with ebay but every dime was refunded!

Hopefully you'll have good luck without hassles :)

If for some reason the seller doesn't work with you, why not re-list the item with the correct sizing and at least make back part of your money?

I purchased an outfit, and when it arrived the skirt was just a little too short for my liking. There was nothing wrong with the outfit, and it was sized correctly.

Because I knew I was never going to wear the skirt, I ended up copying and pasting the previous listing and explained why I was selling the outfit. Someone snatched it up that very same day and I broke even. :flower:

Yeah, but would you buy a top that had a different size "written" on the tag & an outfit that didn't match size-wise? She'll obviously have to sell the 2 pieces separately & I'm guessing the price won't be high enough to justify the costs & time of posting 2 different auctions & then, if she does sell the top, hoping that the buyer doesn't want their own refund because of the tag issue. Just wait for the seller to respond & if they don't refund you, contact Ebay or if you used PayPal, you can file a refund request through them since the items were falsely detailed. Good luck.

Did you pay with paypal?? IF so wait a few days and then file a complaint to get your money back. But wait first to see if she responds.....

Thankfully the seller had another outfit in the same size/style, so I am returning the one I received to her and she will send me the other one. She will also refund the cost for me to return it to her.

It all should work out well.

Thank you again,
Carol

I recently sold a baby monitor on E Bay and honestly thought it only came with a mains adaptor - I used it a couple of times for DD (now 6) but had bought it new and stored it in the spare room.
The customer paid for it with PayPal but then, when it arrived, mailed me to ask where the battery pack was!!!! :confused3
It was a genuine mistake on my part and, as to return it would have cost just as much as she'd paid, I apologised, refunded her money and told her to keep it :sunny:
Genuine mistakes happen. Contact the buyer / seller and wait a while to see what happens before getting distressed.
