Ok, for kicks, my fiance looked up the ring (similar to the ring) he is going to buy, on ebay. His ring is price around 100.00 at the jewelry store. They are selling a similar item for anywhere between .99 and 25.00 on ebay. Now, how do they do this? My fiance said maybe they are stolen, but these people have several of them. Can they really be that cheap to buy in bulk or are these rings just junk?
I had to ask somebody and I just figured one of you would know. :earboy2:

Could be a number of things....yes they can have stolen stuff on ebay, but I've heard that there is actually a HUGE mark-up on jewelry & diamonds. So probably able to sell much cheaper with no overhead.

We bought our wedding rings on e-bay. He had hundreds for sale and good feedback so i don't think they were stolen!! They probably just sell the rings from home so don't have the overheads of a shop/staff etc.

usually buying from ebay is safe. just make sure you read the seller feedback.

i found a really nice 1 1/2 ct white gold e-ring for only $200.

we will most likely get fi's ring there. he wants a 9mm black titanium band and at the jewelery stores they are expensive.

We got titanium rings!!!!!

If you pay using paypal when you have bought something from ebay they insure your purchase up to a certain amount for 30 days so if you dont receive the item they can help you too!

I have to agree with dreams91. I work in fine jewelry sales and as sad as it is the markup on jewelry is astronomical. Most likely the ebay seller is not peddling stolen goods, but he may have a direct vendor link in which case he can sell jewelry at rates far less than retail, but he is still making a profit.

That being said I would be leery of buying such high-end jewelry as an engagement ring sight unseen. Even identical specs (the color and clarity ratings) can be deceiving because they can look so different based on the cut and the setting. Also be aware that there are very convincing faux diamonds on the market these days, which can fool even some of the testing machines used by jewelers (never take anyone’s advice who says they can spot the difference between a real and imitation diamond based on sight). My advice would be to immediately get an engagement ring appraised by an independent jeweler (one who is certified by a recognized gemological association, GIA, ASA, AGA). If the ring is not genuine you can file claims through both paypal and ebay that the seller misrepresented the item.
