Hi guys.....I need help .Ijust started ebaying 2 months ago.On July 26th I ended an auction and was paid via paypal.I mailed out the item on JULY 27TH BY PRIORITY MAIL.The buyer did not want insurance and i did not do delivery confirmation.(not a smart move)....Well I just got an e mail today from the buyer asking if it was shipped yet! This auction was over 35+ days ago....this is the first email I received....This was a disney costume from the resorts that sold for $50 dollars!!!! what do I do? Ihave 100% feedback (only have sold 13 items) Do I send her back the money...It bothers me that this is the first that Im hearing about this.Shouldnt she have contacted me sooner! HELP.....IM SO UPSET....ready to give up on all this!:( Any advice would be appreciated.

I would have thought she would have contacted you sooner. Did you send her an email telling her you sent it? I always pay extra for insurance when I buy something for that much. It's not your fault if it got lost in the mail so you shouldn't have to refund her. We have mailed thousands of pkg and only one has ever gotten lost. Luckily it was insured. I always buy the insurance or delivery confirmation when I have extra shipping $ (I charge a set amount) even if they don't want it. One guy did say he didn't receive a package (we had gotten delivery confirmation and told him so) he said he would ask the neighbors if they got it and we never heard from him again.

A few questions:

1. How is this buyers feedback?
2. Did you offer insurance in the auction and the buyer decided against it?

If she did not want insurance on a $50 item, she was taking a big chance. I don't know. It just seems weird to me that they refused insurance and are now saying the package did not arrive at this late date.

Also, if I notice one of my buyers has low feedback and they don't want insurance on a pricey item, sometimes I pay for it anyway in case they try to pull a fast one.

That said, did you know if you pre-print your priority labels online at usps.com, that the delivery confirmation is free? This way, even if the buyer says the package didn't arrive, you will have proof if it did or not.

to answer your questions...the buyers feedback was 98% 7 negatives out of almost 400 transactions. Also I do offer insurance and i state in my auctions that Im not responsible for items after I mail them if not insured. I guess from now on I will do delivery confirmation and maybe even insurance just to be safe. But...should I refund her the money?....offer a partial refund or just tell her That I mailed it and she chose not to insure it? I really dont want any negative feedback..thanks for all your help

Well, you did state that you are not responsible for items that are not insured, so you do have every right to stand by your terms. That will not guarantee you will not receive negative feedback. If you stand by your terms and they neg you anyway, you can reply to the neg by stating, "As per auction terms, seller not responsible for loss/damage on uninsured items" or "Buyer chose not to insure item - seller not responsible for uninsured items" or something to that effect.

I once had a buyer claim package didn't arrive. I had reason to believe she was not being honest. I "coaxed" her into fessing up by telling her that I was going to my local PO and filing a "loss/rifling" report on the package. I told her this would be investigated starting from my PO, right down to her letter carrier. These were not idle threats, I did file the report. *Magically* and like I predicted, after she told me not to "rush" on this report, she emailed the next day and said the package arrived, so no need to file the report. (Surprise, surprise)

Every situation is different. You have to be sure you mailed the package to the correct address, so that there is no way it was your error. You have to do what feels right for you. Good luck!
