Ebay Mailing Question-Canada

Hi there all you ebay pros out there. I have really gotten a lot of help from reading previous posts about ebay and here's the thing...I have sold quite a bit in my spare time on ebay this past year. I live in the Toronto area in Ontario Canada and my biggest problem seems to be keeping shipping costs reasonable. I was just wondering if any of you are doing ebay from Canada- or at least shipping to Canada, do you always find Canada Post the cheapest way to send stuff? For me, when the package is big enough it can go expedited with insurance and delivery confirmation- but with regular parcel post I don't have the option of paying a few cents or dollars more for confirmation or insurance....do any of you guys use an alternative the the regular post office when mailing in or out of Canada? And are the other ways to ship reasonable or a lot more... Thanks for your help...

I just began including Canadian eBay buyers and also have found shipping to cost a lot.

Example: 4 lb. package with insurance: USD $16.50.

To get insurance you cannot use the most economical method shown in USPS.com.

I have had Canadian buyers ask me not to use UPS, which quoted me $13. for the 4 lb. package because they have had hassles paying duties and value added tax and general sales tax.

Don't over insure the package, the larger described value increases the amount of tax the buyer has to pay to claim the package at the post office or UPS depot. Make sure the clerk writes down the value you give as opposed to $50. maximum or $100. maximum the chosen fee covers.

Regrettably I do not allow PayPal buyers to choose the shipment method, the address reauired by PayPal for maximum fraud protection might be a post office box and UPS won[t deliver there.

I recently won a camera off Ebay and the seller sent it UPS, so not only did I pay their shipping costs, I also received a bill from UPS for almost an extra $100.00 dollars. Iam in Canada and the next time I win anything like that I will be sure to ask them not to send it UPS! I find I always short change myself when I sell things on the costs of shipping.
