I just had an auction end last night, and the winner has zero feedback--just signed up a couple of weeks ago. How long do you usually give someone before offering the item to the second bidder?

What did you state in your auction regarding payment instuctions????

I say I must recieve email contact within 3 days of end of auction and recieve payment within 7 days.

If you didn't give instructions I believe ebays policy is 10 days if not described by the seller.

I usually give 7 days. I have 2 auctions that ended last week - I haven't been paid for either.
One buyer e-mailed me and asked if they could wait and pay on August 4th. I don't mind waiting - but why bid if you can't buy when the auction ends? Urgh!

Gets a little frustrating, ya know?

I am in a similar situation. Someone came in and placed the winning bid on my item during the last 60 seconds of the auction. I sent 3 invoices over 7 days, my auction had specific payment instructions in my listing, and I have not received a response. I have reported the item unpaid to ebay and the winning bidder still hasn't responded. :sad2:

I use 10 days and it seems to work out fine. Had a few that needed more time but contacted me and it was ok. I might be one of the lucky ones nearly 600 feedbacks all positives and only 4 complainers strangely all from California.

Do any of you use the second chance option? The person who bid second on this item clearly wanted it as he/she came back in the last few minutes and attempted to outbid the zero feedback guy. Unfortunately, the one with 400+ positive feedback did not win out. After the proper amount of time, I'd like to offer the item to the second place bidder.

I usually give people 7 days...BUT they have to at least made contact with me. I send my 3rd email that says "I have tried to contact you & will assume you no longer want this item unless I hear from you by xxx" I've only offered 2nd chance once...& it worked out fine.

I've never used the second chance offer myself. I just usually give the people around 6 or 7 days to pay for their item. However, I tell them that they must inform me of what kind of payment they will be making within 3 days. I also tell them to email me if they need more time to pay for the item. I've sold a lot on ebay and most have paid within a reasonable amount of time!

Most people pay immediately or within 1 week. I state in all of my auctions that payment must be received within 10 days. I tend to waver on that though if they contact me. I do currently have two auctions that ended the last week in June that I have not received payment for so I sent upaid item reminders to the winners through ebay. Strangely enough they both claim to have sent payment several weeks ago so in this case I will go ahead and wait one more week and if I still don't receive it I will just relist the items.

I give em 24hrs max. I always prefer paypal, but if tthey have enough positive feedback and request to pay money order i usually let them. Although I don't ship the item until the money order clears.

If they have no feedback I usually make them contact me before bidding//buying it now just to make sure they are legit, and are not scammers

It usually works out well, but I have had a few incidents w/ scammerse in the past, and it is time consuming especially when the click buy it now, and then send you an e-mail stating they want the item shipped out of the country blah blah blah.

My policy is paypal payments due within 5 days. Money orders/Checks within 7 days. Having said that, after 5 days I send a reminder. After 10 days I file a NPB. I find that the NPB process works pretty well. Buyers don't want to receive a non-payment "strike", so I generally receive payment after I file the dispute. Buyers need to understand that you bid, you win, you pay. It's that simple. :cool1:

I only accept Paypal, so I give 'em three days. You should always specifiy this in your auction.

I only accept Paypal also but I state in my auctions 3 days for contact and 7 days for payment. In the past 2 months since I started up again, I've had 1 new-ish bidder who didn't read the payment instructions correctly and only wanted to use Bidpay. 1 NPB who contacted me within 7 days to say she'd pay within the week and then I never heard from again. The weird thing is that she left positive feedback for me (and about 3 others) immediately after the auction ended. :confused3 Both are no longer registered users.

I used second chance for an item that I had a duplicate of and the 2nd place bidder was really happy. Ebay basically sets up a "private auction page" for that person set with a Buy it Now price of whatever their highest bid was. You can choose to send the offer to as many of the bidders as you want (all, some or just one). I think it's a good idea and worked out well for me because you don't have to relist the item (and pay the listing fee) all over again. You just pay whatever the FVF is.

Chill out! The poor guy is a newbie and it's been less than 24 hours since your sale. Since you have to wait at least 7 days to file a non-paying bidder notice with eBay, I would give them at least that long and file the NPB at 7 days if you don't hear anything from him.

Well, the "poor guy" is not stupid. I sent a rather strong (but not ugly) e-mail yesterday, and I finally got a response. It was:

"buyer unable to purchase at this time."

The "poor guy" just cost me money and time.

I have 3 days for paypal or contact to let me know m.o. is on its way. i have one that is now up to 4 days. I did send an email reminder yesterday but it would be nice if they would just let you know.

One of the last times this happened I heard nothing from the buyer at all (7 day timeframe at that time). I was just ready to file a NPB after about 2 weeks or so and here a m.o. shows up in the mail. Why not just say that it is on its way??????

That's not what you said in your first post, now was it? You said that he had not responded to your initial email. Don't bite *my* head off! I see now that it has been almost a week as I did not notice the date of your orininal post.

He may have cost you time, but my guess is that he didn't cost you money. If you neg him and file a NPB then you will get your fees back. If you offer it as a second chance, then you will get what that person bid anyway.

{shrug} This stuff happens. I'm sorry it happened to you :(. Since he says he can't purchase it, I would file a NPB on him, neg him, ban him from your auctions and offer the item to the next bidder. If that bidder doesn't want it, consider re-listing it.
