I won the bid on an XBOX 360 on Ebay and the buyer stated that the sale must be paid within 24hrs by Paypal, when I try to pay I get the message the buyer cannot accept payments. Does anyone know what this means? Since the price was $630 I don't feel safe sending him a check. I like the idea of having a guarantee through Paypal.

I would do a screen save of the paypal notice and save it .

Then e-mail the seller with this info stating you tried to comply with his /hers terms and if they change it to send money order or check .

I would want to resind my bid because I only pay with paypal as you requested .This is actually a ploy by some to give a false sence of security by using paypal.

this could also be they have a new or limit ($500 )paypal account and either didn't expect it to go that high orwill have to wait a while for payments to be posted either way this protect you.

Do you have a "confirmed" address with Paypal?

I have noticed that some ebay sellers will only accept payments from confirmed addresses. The seller may have to adjust his paypal profile to accept your paypal payment ::yes::

Are you funding the payment using a credit card?

This could be another problem with why you can't pay the seller, as some sellers only accept money that is a direct transfer from your paypal linked bank account to theirs even though the Paypal logo is displayed on their auction

First check Paypal's help area and if you can't get the info you need there, you may have to contact Paypal. You should email the seller and let them know that you are having problems paying them, so that they don't think you are avoiding paying. If they are a reasonable seller, they won't be so impatient for payment :flower:

Hope this helps,

Ok, the seller just contacted me and told me his Paypal account is messed up and that I should send him a cashier check. I basically told him nicely that, that is not going to happen. I either pay him with Paypal or nothing.

I really don't care if he cancels the sale but, I don't want him to leave me a negative feedback, because I have been buying and selling on Ebay and have 281 positive feedbacks and I don't want to ruin that.

Ask him to recind you bid or you will report him .

Update, now the seller says he will wait for me to pay by Paypal should be fixed by the end of the week.

Look at his seller payment instructions below. I think he was trying to pull something but I wasn't budging. :confused3

Seller's payment instructions
MUST BE PAID VIA PAYPAL WITHIN 24 HOURS OF END OF AUCTIN OR PROPER NON PAYMENT STEPS WILL BE TAKEN DONT BID IF U DONT PLAN TO PAY PLEASE. THANKS

Good luck you just never know he might have just needed the money fast and now has decided to wait to get it.

Lyn,
Beware of a false sense of security with using Paypal. I just had a non-receipt of an item I purchased from an eBay seller with 100% feedback and I did NOT get a full refund from PayPal. The total transaction was $306 and I was refunded only $175 from PayPal. If the seller does not have an "extra" level of protection from PayPal then you are only able to get $200 per transaction plus they take a $25 fee from that $200. The seller has to have a certain logo like "Buyer Protection" or something like that in their auction and my seller did not have that. So I was really screwed even though I thought I was covered since I used PayPal to pay. I'm now trying to get the rest of my money back through my credit company.

Just a heads up.

Could you post the item number. That way it is possible for people here to look closely at the ad and see if there are any other potential problems involved.

I was just reading in the business section of the newspaper that the XBox 360 will not even be available for sale until Monday, and that the base cost is $299. With all the bells & whistles it is $399.

With this in mind I would definitely not send him a check of any kind, especially a cashier's check. I would suggest looking very closely at his feedback, as well as feedback he has left for others.

As a side comment, perfect feedback is a nice thing to have, but I never let it sway me in either bidding or selling. I have 3 or 4 negatives, but then I also have over 1,300 positives. What worries me when I look at another person's feedback is if there are a lot of recent negatives, as well not only what they say but how the person has responded to them.

The reason a seller will only accept confirmed addresses is to have protection under Paypal rules. I will only accept payments from someone with a confirmed address.

You paid $630.00 for a retail priced item of $399.00? Did I read that right? Or are these supposed to be hot and hard to find?

Hard to find? Yes, I am still looking to buy one for my son. Hot? I don`t know this yet. First, I have to get one, and see it with my own eyes.Sometimes this hard to find toys reminds me of the movie were parents go extremely krazy paying such HIGH prices for a toy hard to find because we parents have no limits set when something is for the happinnes of our children.
Okay here I go again at midninght to my local Walmart looking for a toy/xbox 360 this time instead of a Harry Potter Book! Ebay will be my last choice! :hourglass

If the listing says the seller will accept PayPal (or any other specific method) and then the seller can't or won't, then you are not obligated to pay using a different method.

For all intents and purposes the deal then dies.

You can rebut negative feedback you get:

Negative: Buyer refused to pay.
Reply: Listing says accepts paypal, transaction would not go through.

I have reported this sale to Ebay Security and they are checking into it. In the meantime I have told the seller I will not be paying. This has left me with a very bad feeling for this sale. I thought that Paypal would stand behind anything that I bought but evidently only if they are a preferred seller. I guess I am going to take a negative feedback but that's better than being out $630.

I always use Paypal to pay but I use my credit card only. I have had one Ebay auction go bad and my credit card refunded me the entire amount without any hassle.

Guess what, we were right with my decision not to pay. This seller is no longer a registered seller on Ebay. I guess he was scamming people.

Thank goodness I decided not to send him money.

I'm glad you made the right decision! I think this is one of those items where fraud is going to run rampant! Hope you get your Xbox eventually!
