We are writing to let you know that effective midnight PST, February 18, 2005 eBay.com and eBay Motors will be making changes to the fee structure.

The fee changes are as follows:

Gallery
Gallery fees will be raised from $0.25 to $0.35 per listing. We will also be increasing the size of the Gallery image on search and listings pages by 56%. This will make it easier for buyers to see details of the item before clicking into the listing.

Buy It Now
Buy It Now fees will no longer be charged at a flat rate, and will instead be determined based on the Buy It Now price. Fees will be charged as follows:

Buy It Now Price Fee
$0.01 - 9.99 $0.05
$10 - 24.99 $0.10
$25 - 49.99 $0.20
$50+ $0.25

10-Day Duration
The fee for 10-day duration listings will be raised from $0.20 to $0.40 per listing.

eBay Stores
The fee for the Basic eBay Store subscription will be raised from $9.95 to $15.95 per month. The subscription fee for Featured and Anchor Stores will be unchanged.

eBay Store Inventory format listing insertion fees will remain unchanged. The Final Value Fee for Store Inventory items will change as follows:

Closing Price Old Price New Price
$0.01 - $25 5.25% of the closing value 8% of the closing price
$25.01 - $1,000 5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance. 8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 - $1000)
Over $1,000 5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the next $25.01-$1000, plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value). 8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the next $25.01 - $1000, plus 3% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value).

Store sellers will continue to be eligible to receive 50% off of the Store Inventory listing final value fees for Store Referral credit. Please click here for details.

Insertion and Final Value Fees
The insertion and Final Value Fees will be changing for items listed in certain Business & Industrial categories. More details about the changes for these categories are provided below. The insertion and Final Value Fees in other categories will not be changing.

This stinks! Sales have been bad enough lately without fee increases!

I wish e-bay would publish how many of there auctions are listed and what they actually sell. Yeah e-bay is happy cause people are still listing there stuff and they get there money. Not as much as if it sold but there still making allot of money.

But yet I see so many auctions that end with not one bid placed.

I heard that some people for other boards are going to declare this day, February 18, 2005 an official NON-POSTING day. I am in with them. I think that I`m going to move to Zerofeesauction.com web site. Enough is Enough! I am a person that hates to complain, but now ebay went too far. I am not going to spend lots of time just to give most of my earnings to ebay and paypal. I fee better now that I`ve posted my feelings. I problably will find stuff at lower prices at other websites because the other auction web sites has less competition. I don`t know if I am allowed to put the link for zerofeesauction in this place, so someone that knows the rules for disney can make a link if it is okay to do so. Thanks for listening. I feel FREE!!!!!

Yikes - that is a big increase. They are getting too greedy. I really wish some company (Amazon, do you hear me) with the resources came along to challenge the stranglehold they have. First they buy out Paypal, and increase fees. Now this. It is really getting out of hand. It's getting to the point where it's no longer worth it. I've sold a lot of items (over 3000) items on Ebay over the past 3 years, but I think this might finish me off.

you know I agree.. this is just too much.. I PAY ebay about $250 a month in fees.. and this is just TOO much..... I am currently looking at other options. overstock.com is a great choice but as a canadian I can not buy or sell there so I am still looking.
really mad today!!!!!

I think the impact of these fees depends on the context of your sales. If you are running a business on ebay, these fees will take a bigger bite out of your profits. If, however, you are cleaning out your garage, selling outgrown clothing, items trashpicked, etc., then something is still better than nothing. You are still likely to earn more selling the stuff on ebay than putting it out at a yard sale. And you certainly earn more than if you just gave the stuff to Goodwill.

Don't get me wrong. I think the price increase is pretty substantial. Ebay has been consistently profitable so I'm not sure what the justification is for raising fees. But realistically it is still a great service and will probably continue to be very popular with buyers and sellers.

I tried to sign up with overstock and I too was dissappointed it wasn't available for Canadians. I think I'm going to move a portion of my stuff to specialty online auction houses. I'm also going to spend some more money on advertising my website. Between the postal increases and these new fees I'm not sure how any of this is worth it anymore.

Is the fee increase only for those with Ebay stores or everyone???

Some of the fees impact stores only and other impact all auctions. The final value fees are only going up for stores However, the 10 day auction fee increase, Buy it now increase and gallary photos increase will impact any regular auctions that use these additional services.

I apologize. I misread the notice the first time through. You are correct. The increase in final value fees is for stores only. In that case, I don't think this change really is such a big deal. Most casual sellers and even many regular sellers don't have ebay stores. I don't. I just list auctions, so there won't be any fee increase that will affect my business. Unless you use Gallery, Buy It Now, or 10-day auctions, this increase will have no effect on you.

IMHO--From someone who has a store...this is an OUTRAGE!! I am closing my store because I get nothing in return for the additional price increase. It is hard enough to have to promote it with auctions and now this...it just isn't fair at all to me. So I will continue auctions (even with gallery) but this store thing was a trial for me anyway, nice to know they made it easy!!
Gallery is the biggest dissapointment now because how many of us skim over auctions with no picture out there--I know I do. Guess I will have to suck it up!
