I could use some expert ebayers advice out there because I am starting to get to the point of frustration with it. Last Wednesday bought a laptop from a seller. Paid by paypal and I know he got paid because on Thursday it was taken out of checking account. Well Thursday night emailed no response. Emailed again Sunday and he responded the second time oh I am on vacation I will ship it to you on Monday when I get back. Well emailed him last night to verify did it get shipped and again he is ignoring me. If I knew that it went by UPS or FEDEX I am sure it wil come before I go to Vegas for a week on Friday night. Going from Illinois to Ohio. So it shouldn't take that long. Ok what I am wondering am wrong in leaving this joker negative feedback? Ebay policy to take action against the seller is 14 days after I paid him, so EBAY won't help. So all of you expert ebayer's what would you do if you're in my shoes? My other concern is if not here by Friday and it comes next week I know the UPS guy will leave the package out in the open for it to get soaked on by the rain and ruin the laptop. Thanks for all your help.

Not everyone is on the internet 24/7. Have a lil more patience.

Did the auction say it would be shipped on the day of payment? Many people do not go to the PO everyday. Some say in their auctions they ship twice a week. Go back and read all the auction terms but unless it says it will be shipped the day of payment.....which may not have even been possible if you paid after 3p.m....then I don't see how you can leave a negative already. Sounds like you're jumping the gun on this one.

Sounds like you and the seller have busy lives and maybe you should have waited until you returned to purchase something on Ebay. As for the laptop you could either ask a friend or neighbor to watch for the package.

If you emailed him Monday night after he just got home from vacation, I imagine he has a lot of email to catch up on. As mentioned, unless he said immediate shipping, if Paypal cleared the money into his account on Thursday, he's certainly no slowpoke, if he planned on shipping on Monday. And he might have rethought Monday, since it's the busiest day at the post office.
If everyone is emailing him, he has to answer them all..it takes time. He certainly doesn't deserve you even thinking of giving him a neg..it hasn't even been a week. I'd at least give him that to ship it..and then time for it to arrive.
You could always pull his contact info..but for what's it worth, I would be feeling really hastled if I was the seller. He just didn't respond to your third email..you don't know if he's ingoring you, or maybe like me, he has two school programs to go to, a Disney trip to plan, and in the midst of it all, he's getting all his eBay packages packed and shipped...and answering three emails from just one of his buyers, is more than he wants to handle today. If eBay gives him 14 days, why would you give him less?

I would go on your trip, have someone look for the package at your door, and see if it arrives (which it probably will) when you return. You still have LOTS of time, to file any complaints with ebay. Sometimes as a buyer (myself included) we get anxious when we send an email and get no response within a day or so. Oftentimes, I don't even receive any replies but my item does eventually arrive, though the seller did not reply to any of my emails. I don't agree with that lack of communication, but I can understand that some people are just very busy too. As a seller, I personally try to answer all my emails w/in 24 hours. But, again try and be a little more patient.

You're expecting too much, too soon..

And I second everything that DMRick said..

I got an email today - from someone who won and paid for an item on SUNDAY - wanting to know why they hadn't received it yet.. Of course they weren't willing to pay for the faster Priority Mail either - and they're half way across the country!

Maybe I am different but every time I sell something on ebay and I got paid by paypal the item will ship the same day. There was nothing on his site on when he was going to ship, I was just thinking if you put something on ebay you should be home to ship the item when you get paid. I am going on vacation to Vegas on Friday and sold something on ebay this past week. I put it up for sale knowing if paypal or credit card payment it would be shipped before we leave and if it was by check and 10 days to wait to clear as stated in my auction I will be back from Vegas in time to ship it to them. Maybe I am not in the norm of most people. He did reply yesterday but it did not get shipped till Tuesday so the way it looks it will not come in time. It would have been helpful while on vacation to have interent access. Thanks for everyone who responded. I think I will still wait for my feedback to see if I come home next week it will be at my doorstep or just totally wet from rain that is expected and be DOA. Thanks

It is always great to have sellers ship ASAP.
I agree, I wouldn't list something to sell knowing I would be out of town at auction ending. But it could have been unexpected too.
I don't sell a lot. But I ship a lot. (trade pins worldwide)
At least the seller is shipping in a reasonable amount of time.
Where I use to live I was lucky to have a nearby USPS store that was open seven days a week, and for extended hours. (And mail left the location three times a day.)
Here, the mail leaves once a day 3:00-ish all around this area, that I have seen. So from experience I know anything after 3:00 I feel more secure with letting sit until the next day.
Central FL has a lot of postal stations. But many are little hole in the walls that look like an after thought.
So far I have shipped everything I sold within 24 hours of payment. Since I don't have the access I use to, I don't note this in auctions.
When I use to buy on Ebay, the shipping timeframe was one thing I always looked for. I would often pass on sellers who shipped once a week. Seems I was always at the beginning of their week. ;) There are too many sellers who ship right away to wait additional time for someone else.

I think those who ship "right away" are actually running a business from their home and have no other obligations to contend with - and it's certainly not the "norm".. I can't even buy from a MAJOR store on the internet or via the telephone and have it shipped "the same day" - LOL..:teeth:

I run a business from my home and I still can't ship everyday. I've certainly had my share of ebayers who think if they pay on Friday night, I'll run out on Saturday and mail it. I may, I may not. I have a certain amount of days, according to eBay and although my feedback often mentions my fast shipping, I usually ship within 2 business days..but even that isn't carved in stone. If someone wants something sent immediately, and my TOS doesn't say I ship immediately, I'd just as soon they go elsewhere, since I can see the handwriting on the wall:

Tuesday, hour after item sell: did you get my payment? When will you ship

Weds, next morning: will the item go out today? Do you have tracking info?

Weds, Next evening: well? Did it go out?
Weds, 20 minutes later: Why aren't you answering me..it's been 20 minutes, and I need to know?

Thurs: well it didn't come in todays mail (first class), can you look up the tracking number (uh..you didn't want one..went first class, and you chose not to pay for tracking..I paid for it, but I'm not looking it up..I'm busy getting the next person's item packed), and let me know where it is?

Thursd night: When can you put a tracer on this..I need this for a party tomorrow.

Friday am: If item doesn't come by today, I'm refusing it and giving you a neg.

Whew..am I lucky..it came on Friday. Whew, lucky for me.

Bought on Tuesday, shipped on Wednesday, it arrived from NY to CA Friday, first class mail on Friday aft. Person wrote and told me how lucky I was they didn't neg me. Only because they loved the item. Geesh.

I really do have another life..too bad I had to slow down on my other packing, while I stopped to answer all her innane emails.

You summed it up nicely! :teeth:

And what I REALLY love are the buyers who want Priority Mail speed - but don't want to cough up the higher cost of PM..
