Hi angelsmom, and welcome to the DIS Boards! You are going to WDW at a wonderful time of the year! The end of January is one of our favorite times to visit WDW because of the low crowds.
Boma is a very popular restaurant, and I have eaten there for both breakfast and dinner. They offer some unusual dishes, but also have carved meats and other buffet favorites. We like the food here. If you go to
www.allearsnet.com and click on the "dining" link, you will be able to view the menus for Boma and most other WDW restaurants. As far as seeing the animals at AKL, you cannot do so from Boma; however, before or after your meal you can visit one of the public viewing savannah areas to check them out.
I don't have any princesses (only an 11 yo prince) in my family, but the Princess Storybook Breakfast at the Restaurant Akershus in Norway in Epcot might interest you. Belle, Jasmine, Snow White and Mary Poppins and Sleeping Beauty are guests.
Another fun option for the kids in your group, and the adults too, might be 'Ohana at the Poly. The food is served family-style and includes skewers of Grilled Tiger Shrimp, Marinated Sirloin Steak, Mesquite Turkey and BBQ Pork Loin with Dipping Sauces. There are hula hoop and coconut rolling contests, and if you time it right you can see Wishes right from the restaurant.
Other suggestions include: Beaches & Cream at the BC, for burgers and shakes at an old-fashioned ice cream fountain; 50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM for 1950's fun and servers that make you eat your vegetables or no dessert (the Peanut Butter and Jelly Shakes are yummy!); or Whispering Canyon at the WL for skillet meals and server tomfoolery.
