Wolfgang Puck Express
Let the food porn begin!
After arriving and checking in, my darling wife, our niece, and I headed off to Downtown Disney for dinner. Tonight's menu: WP Express. We had been here twice before on previous trips, and were excited to try it again, because we knew that there were good eats to be had there.
We arrived at the restaurant, and there was no line! Woo hoo! This was our first time on the meal plan, so we stated that right away, and were told that we could choose an entree item, a dessert, and a drink. Unfortunately, they were out of the creme brulee that night, but hey, we had it later in the week!
My wife ordered first. She ordered the rotisserie beef and gorgonzola pocket with fresh potato chips. This pocket featured (according to All Ears) Niman ranch rotisserie beef, gorgonzola, red onions, chopped romaine, roma tomatoes, and horseradish caesar dressing. According to my wife, she thought that this was fantastic. The flavor was great, and you really could taste the gorgonzola and horseradish...and amazingly, these flavors melded together quite well. There was a bit of a salad quality to it, and the portion was HUGE! Not to mention the chips. They were salty, flavorful, and we wish we could've taken some of them home. How can our words do this justice? Here's the pic:
I ordered the meatball and parmesan pizza. To quote Rachel Ray, Yummo! This tasty pizza featured meatballs, a fresh basil pesto, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, tomato basil garlic sauce, and fresh basil on top. Here's what I loved about this pizza: first, loved the fresh basil. Gave it a really good flavor. There's nothing like fresh ingredients. Second, it was like eating two separate pizzas at the same time. The first few bites seemed to have more of the meatballs and mozzarella, and towards the crust was more pesto. For me, this was a definite repeater.
Our niece had a side of the macaroni and cheese. Specifically, the four cheese macaroni. Couldn't tell you what cheeses were in there, but we did happen to steal a few bites, and it was tasty. Cheese and pasta. What's better than that? Ok, it was a little overcooked, but it was rich and yummy. Comfort food.
After placing our order and getting our drinks, we sat at a table outside where we were entertained by a little squirrel that we have dubbed Pete. Of course, Pete and his friends frequent the World (as we all know) but Pete was particularly adventuresome as he really let you know that he wanted some of your food. I swear, he was more tame than our dogs at home!
For dessert, we both ordered the brownies. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, they were out of creme brulee. The brownies were described as "fresh baked" on All Ears, and unfortunately, this was the only part of the meal that wasn't above par. Obviously packaged brownies, they were still good (chocolate!), but nothing special. So much so, that we forgot to take a picture of them.....
So here's our overall review:
We would definitely return! (And we did!)
Atmosphere: 3 forks.
The place was clean, pleasant and had outdoor seating. However, the outdoor seating is right next to an area where people smoke. So that took away from the pleasantness.
Quality of food: 3 1/2 forks
This was a close one to be a 4 forks, but the brownie brought it down a notch. Better brownies are to be had at home.
Service: 3 forks.
No problems here. The lemonade was refilled and the food was hot. And our waiter was personable.
What's next? Whispering Canyon breakfast! Stay tuned!
And to finish, here's a picture of day 1 towel art:
