Eating at DLP - Birthday Meal?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently planning mine & my DH's first trip to DLP for early this July - we chose our dates so that I could spend my birthday (July 2nd) at the park! Since it's a special trip and a special day, I want to choose a nice meal for my birthday dinner, and I'd like recommendations. I've heard nothing but great things about Walt's (I've been told by people they ate better at Walt's than Club 33 in Disneyland) but we're still figuring out our budget and I don't know if Walt's is feasible for us. What other places might you all suggest, particularly in a cheaper-than-Walt's setting? I'm also not opposed to making it more of a birthday lunch vs a dinner to save money.

Also, I've done a little reading on this, but how important is it to book dining reservations in advance? From what I've read the only way seems to be to call (is this correct?) but as we're in the US that seems a bit daunting/expensive. Given that this particular date seems to be the first Saturday of summer break for schools, would you all say this would make an advance dining reservation more necessary? It's hard to break from my uber-WDW style of planning!

Thanks!

I would recommend Blue Lagoon (Blue Bayou in California) the restaurant in Pirates. I haven't eaten there but many people recommend Inventions in Disneyland Hotel. Also people have recommended Manhattan Restaurant in Hotel New York.

Yes unfortunately, the only way to do ADR in Disneyland Paris is by phone call. The number is +33 160304050 As its a special meal and you want a particular restaurant on a particular day I would strongly advise phoning for the ADR. You could take a chance and wait until you check in at your hotel and ask them to book for you or go to Town Hall in park.

I had my 50th birthday dinner in Inventions and it was great because of the characters but food was not that good (it's a buffet and some of the food was stone cold as i suppose they cook it in advance and just refill the plates...) plus it's very pricey.
The cake at the time was only the sponge chocolate cake and was nothing special but i have heard now they have a different choice of cakes..
Food in Bistrot Remy was good even though that is not cheap either and you do not have characters in there.

I would go with Bistrot chez remy - its the best restaurant in the parks at the moment and has varying menu's to suit different budgets. The menu is a choice of steak, fish or vegetarian but despite this, the simple menu is cooked exceedingly well. I also found the cast members to be very chatty and friendly.

Blue lagoon is also tasty and has a slightly more romantic atmosphere...as much as is possible in DLP!

For an outside recommendation, I'd say cape cod in the Newport Bay hotel. It's a buffet restaurant and is usually a little quietier and calmer than other buffets. You can choose a table looking over the lake and there is usually a nice choice of food and desserts - it can be fish heavy although never exclusively, other mains will be on offer too. I'm a big seafood fan so I love it.

I'm loving the recommendations, keep them coming! I should have mentioned neither DH nor I care very much for characters, so a character meal is definitely not on our list (should help with the budgeting side of things I'm sure!)

Is there anywhere online to see menus? I saw dlpguide.com but I didn't know if that was the best resource.

Have a look at the restaurant sticky at the top of the page. Carrie does a good job of keeping the menus up to date on here
